c2c or thousand trails membership ??

So I was at a RV show and see the thousand trails booth.. got to talking with them and is sounds like the best thing since sliced bread is you know what i mean.. most stuff from a salespersons mouth is not exactly true and i temper that in to stuff i hear.

In doing some looking around i see there are other membership programs as well.

SO i am trying to get user of both/either plan to see which might be the better and why or the worse and why..

we plan on full timing while doing some work camping along the way. (amazon warehouse work in christmas time.)

definitely want to go out west to BLM and other types of places to see sights and stuff.

right now its all a pipe dream/plan but we are trying to get things ready to do this in some 4-6 yrs.

So let me know what you think.. :)
  • TT can be a good deal, if you use it. Keep in mind that alot of the disparaging remarks are from people that don't have a membership (but heard from a friends wife who had a pool boy, that heard from an uncle, that....etc etc). As has been mentioned there are numerous contracts out there so be aware of what you are buying.

There haven't been "lifetime memberships" for a long time. Most courts have declared them illegal. We bought our membership 10 years ago, at the time we had to keep our membership for three years. After the three years you could do whatever you wanted with it, including just letting it go.

We live in Oregon and use the TT parks almost exclusively. I can get in a park on short notice over holiday weekends. Even if they don't have site with hookups they have overflow (no hookups) and at least you are off the road and a safe place to stay.

As mentioned if you buy a resale check with TT as to just what you are getting. Some contracts have very low annual maintenance fees...until it is resold and then fees go immediately to the current going rate.

Yes, lots of resales are available. Not all because people are dissatisfied but because for whatever reason (age, health, etc) they no longer use the parks. Yes, there are dissatisfied members but we have talked with many more that like the membership than those that don't.

    Good luck with your research.
  • hey i own timeshare and if you ask ANYone they will tell you its carp.. Well it is carp if you buy from the developer. ALl mine were got resale market for 90% less than new.

The way to make something work is to know the unwritten rules of the game. When i first got into timeshare before becoming an owner i would got to timeshareusersgroup.com TUG2.net and read for hrs.

there i learned how to really use the product, not what the sleeze salesperson told me how it would work. We have vacationed in some nice places for less than 500 bucks for the week for the past 10 yrs. Its all about knowing how to use the product.

that is what i am trying to do here.

IF you know of another site that have more info, questions etc let me know.
  • THe key to all CG memberships is you have to be willing to use them. If you use them you will get value. I have a resale C2C membership that I pay less than $200.00 a year for. If I use it once for a few days a year I get my money back.
As long as there are parks convenient to you that you like the memberships can be worthwhile.
  • RPI...Resort Parks International. An affiliate campground membership like C2C

AOR...Adventure Outdoor Resorts. AN Affiliate campground membership like C2C

ALL require having membership in a Home Park that supports/has affiliation with them

    HERE is more info.
  • thanks man that is great to know. and the link is nice as well..
have a good fri and weekend.

by the way how many "points" come with each membership? i was reading where you can rent points from other members as well.

What is the usual rental cost per point or 100 points. (not sure how they are packaged, at wyndham resorts you buy in packages of 1000 points.)

Points are used to pay for your nightly cg site fee.......1000 points equals $10

No points come with membership (unless some kind of 'special' is going on). You purchase points which go in your C2C account. Then when you make a reservation at an affiliate CG the necessary points to cover your stay are deducted from your account and CG is paid by C2C accounting.
Points are sold in bundles of 1000...higher bundles include bonus points
C2C members can SELL their points to other C2C members thru C2C
  • now i am starting to get the hang of this thing. So what are "points" costing through the C2C people vs buying them through another C2C member?

when I look at rates of place, some may be C2C some not, if the rate is $35 per night you will need 3500 points or is the cost when u are a C2C member less than the regular rate.

You can only use C2C at cgs that are affiliated with C2C program.

    NOT every CG is......
IF the CG costs $35/night and it is NOT a C2C Affiliate then it costs you $35/night IF you can use that campground. Remember the 'affiliate' cgs are PRIVATE Member CGs....must be a member to use.
Some private do allow non-member use.

IF the CG is an affiliate CG that allows C2C then it will cost you 1000 or 1500 points per night ($10/15)
When you make your reservation for that CG THRU C2C Reservation System it will show hoe many points per night are needed, total points needed to cover reservation period (2, 3--7 days etc) and if you have enough points in your C2C account to cover the reservation period.

You buy points at value........1000/$10. Large quantity purchases gets bonus points (Ex: 50,000 points ($500) is equal to 50 nights at 1000 points per night ($10).......by buying $500 worth of points might get extra 5000 points ----5 extra nights Example only...don't remember when bonus points get added)

Might cut a 'deal' with a C2C member looking to sell their points for less----never bought from another member. C2C would handle transfer of points.
