Can we get towed two times for the same breakdown?

Never was sure if GS ERS tows us to the facility of their choice.....and the shop says "we can't help.....won't do this type work"......or is the wrong shop to work on an Allison trans....or something similar, will GS ERS tow us to the proper facility FREE or will we have to pay the tow truck out-of-pocket?

This could be on the same day or a day or two or three after the breakdown.

Thank you in advance for the clarification.

  • Update: I talked with Frank and the outcome was to my satisfaction. The phrase "capable" will cover our Allison 1000 and any miscommunication between ERS and the service center who later backs out of repairing our Allison 1000.

There will be a second tow at no additional charge and mileage will not come into play.

Thank you Frank and ERS for the clarification
  • Thanks Frank. I was most concerned about our Allison 1000 trans. I would tell your dispatch we had this along with other important MH weights and measurements.

I now am sure that dispatch will call service centers that say they will repair our Allison 1000, to double check that they actually do....and that we are coming in.

In the unlikely event the service center fibbed and there is no certified Allison tech on site...and I find this out AFTER we are towed and AFTER the tow truck has gone bye-by...now what?

If the tow truck is still on-site, will you ask them to tow us to the correct Allison repair facility at no charge to us?

I realize I am nit-picking but the COULD happen and not for only an Allison problem but for some other breakdown....which for a boo-boo by someone, means we end up at a facility which is not "willing and capable" to repair our MH.

Since qualified Allison repair shops are relatively few and far between....will there be a mileage limit imposed?
  • Thank you for your post Noel. I have sent you a PM and will look forward to chatting with you one-on-one.
As you know, the Good Sam Roadside Assistance Member Benefit Brochure under “Towing” specifies, in part:
“When you call for service, Good Sam Roadside Assistance pays 100% of the towing fees for the delivery of your vehicle to the nearest professional service center capable and willing to repair your vehicle.”
We manage the delivery of our Roadside Assistance services to meet these objectives.
    Thanks for your membership.

  • This section says "Ask Marcus if you have questions......."

OK, Marcus, after you get back from lunch will you jump in for the definitive answer, please.
  • I broke down out of state GS ERS towed it on a Sun to a Pilot that would not work on it. They picked it up on Monday morning and towed it to another state, that could fix it. {BRAKES} The only thing it cost me was overnight in a motel, that I did not need. They called ahead to the shop, but somehow got the numbers mixed up. Best bet would be to call GS and ask them of your particular situation.
  • sounds like kick back money to me. how does the provider know who can fix the rv, nobodies looked at it yet.
  • I had a problem and had to have the Journey towed. The Good Sam dispatcher(?) gave me two options to where I could have it towed. I sort of balked at the option where GS wanted the worked performed. When I asked about the 2nd option, I was told that if this shop could not fix my problem, GS would not tow it to another location. On the other hand, if the 1st option shop could not fix my problem, GS would tow to another location FREE.
  • I doubt it. when I had my bounder towed we went to one repair shop and the fella emphasized that I shouldn't let the tow truck operator drop the motorhome since it had to be moved elsewhere and that would constitute two tows and probably wouldn't be paid for.
