A couple of years ago we had a flat and pulled into a gas station to call GSRS. The person that was sent charged us $100. All he did was swap the flat for the spare. According to GSRS I am responsible to pay for the service and they pay for the ???
I never really understood that one. Having said that, I guess even with all the, read in between the lines, it is better to be able to call one place that can get help out to you ASAP. Basically, whether one has ERS or not, you are always going to have to pay for services.
Maybe the person who came out to change the tire scammed you. - R2RracingExplorer

Am I reading this right?? If I have a flat and I also have a spare tire already mounted, and I call GS Roadside Assistance and they send a service provider I have to pay them $130.00 to change my tire??
Larry 1190 and all members,
Any time you call GSRA for service that may require you being responsible for a part or labor costs(such as a valve stem, new battery or mounting a tire to a rim), our dispatchers will put a $130 authorization on your credit card to secure payment. This authorization is similar to what would be held upfront at a hotel or rental car company.
Once the service is completed, our service provider will give GSRA dispatch the final total to be charged to the credit card. I would recommend that anytime you are responsible for parts and labor during a service call, to call back into dispatch after service completion to receive an exact total and request a receipt.
If you have any further questions, please call GSRA member services available 24/7 at 1-800-234-3450.
I hope this helps,

Marcus' Rapid Response Team - wbwoodExplorerHas anyone ever called a Goodyear company to see how much it would cost to have them respond and have a spare mounted on a rim on the side of the road? I would be interested to know what the cost would be. I've never had to use the service, but It sounds like GS is making money on the deal. I heard before about giving them a credit card number for repairs like that, but never thought much about it. My motorhome doesn't have a spare. I might be looking for one and one on a rim to have to avoid that $129 extra charge. My understanding is that they will change an inflated spare with the bad for the included service call. According to their brochure, there's an "or" they will tow to the nearest professional service center. So I guess if you have time to spare and want to save a little money, you could just have them tow you and then pay a cheaper rate to a service center. I guess it depends on how much your time is worth.

GoodSamCS@GoodSamFamily.com - jpprvExplorerI understand what all are saying. However, the flat was in my driveway. GSER uses Goodyear service centers which I am NOT crazy about. The provider came from 40 miles away(smaller town than mine). OK maybe my town service center does not have a truck(I know they used to). I am not complaining about the mounting fee itself I am complaining about the amount. In the past when we had a blowout the service provider would call us direct after GSER contacted them and any charges would be paid to the service provider. I have a problem charges made to GSER without having an itemized receipt. Two years ago we had a blowout on Sunday afternoon on a busy interstate. That is when I found out about the contract with Goodyear. I do not use Goodyear for personal reasons. We are retired from Goodyear. The charges were put on my CC and it included a $125 disposal fee. No one with GSER has ever been able to tell me why. I did get a refund because I was told I was charged too much for the tire. I have questions with no answers. Yesterday a rep. called for me to renew my membership. While talking with the gentleman he tells me I should not have been charged anything. GSER pays for the service call. Then he tells me I have to pay all labor charges. Ok, no problem. My problem is The provider himself told me $35 but GSER charged $130. I would like to know why the difference. That is my question. Up until 3 years ago we paid GSER nothing. Any charges were paid to the provider. Just have questions.
- rbuttonExplorerWould like to fill in just a bit on coming to your assistance to install a tire on a rim. In the past - I use to work for Firestone and one of the jobs was to load up the service truck and go out on the turnpike to install a new tire on a rim for long haul truckers and many of the early RV's, Buses, and trailers.
The service truck was no simple pickup truck. It has a air tank system driven by a compressor off the PTO. In the back was also a large wheel frame to roll the tire and rim into while airing up the tire - in case some silly mechanic did not set the tire right on the rim!
A full set of mechanics tools are in the truck as well as specialized tire irons, special tire hammers, rim bead cleaners, etc. Now they also carry covers for the tools to allow them to work on the aluminum rims!
We're rolling up to install a tire, bring with us all the manual tools needed that we would normally do in the shop with specialized tools. In the shop about a hour job, along side the road 3-4 hours! And this is done no matter what the weather (use to have to work in snow storms!), while standing along the road.
Remember this is to install a tire on your rim. As others have noted above this is not to replace the blowout with a good spare - also as others have noted my experience with GS is that is all paid for. They come change the tire - make sure it's aired up, we sign the work sheet, and head on down the road.
In my humble opinion in this economy, $130 is not that much for them to come to you. Just wanting to help you appreciate the person that comes to work on your RV and if they do a good job thank them and if not PLEASE let GS know so hopefully they will note it on the list of who they call next time. And ya it take a while for them to get there to you! Some of the time is getting the supplies loaded on the truck, checking the equipment, tools etc. and making sure they have the right tire - I was usually required to carry a couple different tires so once I go to the repair site they could pick which tire they wanted mounted. So both sales and service department coming to you where ever you are. - wbwoodExplorer

And it's not GS road service charging you a $130. It's the service that comes to you that charges that amount.
So GS Road Service pays the tire changer both ways to come to wherever you are... The tire changer is charging $130 for the same service the op gets at his local store for $35... if my interpretation of this post this correct... GS should find another service provider in that area.
GS negotiates with service companies on responding to certain situations and they pay them. Things as mounting a tire (that you have) are not included in that service call. Yes GS is paying for them to come there and if you had a spare tire on the rim, then GS would pay for that. Same as with any roadside service. You can always decide not to pay for the tire mounting and call a company of your own. But I imagine to have someone respond and mount a tire, would cost a lot more than $130. At least you are getting a good portion of the entire call paid for. - NolalSafariExplorer

Thanks for the clarification. I also was wondering what the charge was for.
