Disgusted and getting the total run around.

The day after Thanksgiving, my rig broke down in OH. I was on my way from CT to IN to see family. I knew no one in OH. The rig started to overheat without warning so all I could do was pull off the road and call Good Sam.

They called me a tow truck and then said where I would be towed to. It was 34 miles from the point of my breakdown. Again, the day after Thanksgiving, so Friday, Thanksgiving weekend. I was less than one mile from a Flying J truck stop so I was in a town. I waited for the tow truck and he came promptly.

When he got the RV hooked up, he said that his shop was only 4 miles away and why don't we go there instead. I said, "I'd better go where Good Sam is taking me. I've never used their roadside assistance service before and I should trust them." No lie. Those were the words that came out of my mouth. I am used to being a single woman on the road and I was afraid this guy was untrustworthy.

He took me to the shop that Good Sam had chosen for me. I went indoors and there was a frazzled woman behind the counter. When she got off the phone call she was on, I told her that I had just been towed in by Good Sam. She said that they were down one mechanic and that they wouldn't even be able to look at it until Monday.

I told her that I knew no one in the area and was living in my RV. She said Good Sam told her nothing about the fact I was being towed there, that I was living in the RV, or that it was urgent.

I went back out to the tow driver and told him not to disconnect my RV. We were out in the boondocks and there was nothing out there at all. I said, "Take me back to the shop you work at. I can't stay here." So I called Good Sam back and they said, "We did our job! We got you to a mechanic. If you have it towed anywhere else, it's going to be on you!" A few minutes later, they called me back and said they found me a taxi place and a hotel. The hotel was called "Das Dutch Haus Inn." They had live professional dinner theater and finely crafted fireplaces, indoor hot tubs, etc. We saw it as we drove on by.

He took me to his shop (again; 4 or 5 miles from the point of my breakdown) and they looked at it immediately. It was a fan belt. They allowed me to lay down and take a nap in the back of my RV while they worked on it. I was so upset and cold. In less than 2 hours, it was repaired.

I paid the bill. $588. $375 was towing. The towing bill Good Sam refused to pay.

I have been trying to resolve this dispute through email. Their website, their email form. No response after 8 days. Never a courtesy email to say, "Thank you for contacting us. We'll review your information and get back to you soon." I sent a second email asking if they received the first and still no response.

I called them today and spoke to a man and explained the reason for my call. I asked to speak to a manager and he put me on hold. The person who answered said, "Are you in a safe location?" They transferred me to dispatch. I had to go through their questions and give them all the information just so I could say, "I think they sent me to the wrong place."

This person said that his supervisor was busy and that he/she would call me back as soon as they were able. I've been waiting now for about 3 hours. No call back. Somehow I doubt I will be getting one.

All I want is my $375 refunded. I want to walk away from this roadside assistance "organization" with a positive end result. If I can't have that, then I'm going to make it known that this is the last place anyone should go for roadside assistance coverage.

We pay for roadside assistance to help us when we're in trouble, not for them to tow us to places that can't take care of us, thus leaving us stranded once again.

PS: The tow truck driver said he'd never even heard of Good Sam Roadside Assistance. That should tell you something.
