Good Sam Club Rec Rewards Visa - AGAIN

I have been looking into the problem of not being awarded the correct amount of points for camping at the various state parks.

I am only getting ONE point per dollar when I stay at state parks in DE, MD or VA. (I assume it is the same with ALL state park reservations made via Reserve America)

The problem is that the merchant category used to say "Trailer Parks and Campgrounds"

Sometime in 2012 or 2013, the category was changed by Reserve America to "Government Services Not Elsewhere Classified". I have been on the phone multiple times with the state parks in MD and DE and also Reserve America to try and get this resolved. If I could get a few other folks to also call Reserve America we might get this fixed so we don't have to keep calling Good Sam Visa to get points adjusted.

The last time I called they told me it was because the merchant category was not right and they would not adjust points any more.

Good Sam Folks, can you PLEASE help to fix this??
  • Could anyone share with me if they are successfully downloading transactions from the Comenity website fo their Good Sam Visa into Quicken or some other type of money management software? I am trying to decide what to do. I am currently using Microsoft Money 2006 and cannot download transactions. I'm trying to decide whether to get new software or a new card? Thanks. Jamie Egan
  • Hi Karen,
Thank you for your time today to discuss the Rec Rewards program and how points are earned. As discussed, the way the program automatically provides 3 points per dollar is based on the merchant's classification code. This is how the merchant classifies themselves to Visa and not something that Comenity or Good Sam controls since we do not own or operate any campgrounds. If you stay at a campground that has improperly classified themselves as a merchant, we can make a manual adjustment to your points but it will not calculate them automatically. I'm working on an automated process to report "missing points" to hopefully make any adjustments easier in the future. Thank you for your continued feedback and support.

    Sincerely,
    Robyn Barnes

  • Anyone having more issues with the 'new' Good Sam Visa?

We recently stayed at 3 Good Sam Parks and only got 1 credit per dollar spent. Comenity apparently does not have them classified in their system properly. Have been on hold almost a half hour now while they 'look into the problem'.

    VERY frustrating!

Robyn - can you help? (I'm also sending you an email)
  • Hi Karen,
I received your email and responded to it today. I'm out of the office attending the Good Sam Rally in Atlanta. I'll have your points corrected when I return and contact you to address your concerns.

The automatic accrual of three points per dollar on camping only works when the campground has classified themselves as a campground with the Visa network. Unfortunately, State Parks don't classify themselves as campgrounds so the points don't calculate automatically. The same thing is true with certain private campgrounds. If they don't classify themselves as a campground the system has no way of calculating the points. We can adjust the points for you manually but I realize that it's inconvenient. Unfortunately, we don't control how the campgrounds classify themselves as merchants.

I apologize for the inconvenience and will be in touch next week when I return from the Rally.
  • and again - in my case reported earlier - I have tried to use my rewards to buy C2C points to use for my upcoming reservation, that starts tomorrow but the credit card company told me it take 4-5 WEEKS to transfer the credits to C2C! Totally useless for anyone that prefers to not plan far into the future! Have stopped using that GS credit card!
  • I had the same problem when we rented a space in a Mobile Home Park that was half RV spaces. The office was combined with their Used Car Dealership in the front of the property. When I sent an email, the CSR said, Sorry, but it was how the charge was coded. 6 mos of triple points we missed out on.
