Good Sam Dispatch Giving Out Different Information.

After being sold on the Good Sam Roadside service by the sales gal at Camping world that anything can be towed, and also verifying this on the disclosure paper, we purchased the assistance, hoping we would never use the service.
I called the phone number on the card and explained to them my utility trailer was sitting in the middle of an intersection and that the hitch broke completely off. She asked me what was in the trailer, and I told her burnable pellets, she then said that's not RV related and they couldn't help me. I was able to drag the trailer out of the intersection and I then proceeded to haul the pellets out of the trailer to the suburban and to my house which was 1/2 mile away. I then decided to call them back, he said it was covered, I said great, he then said he needs to ask an onsite repair guy if they should tow it or send me a repair guy. He assured me that sending a tech was the way to go but I would have to pay for any repairs the guy would charge me upon arriving. I said could you please tow it home its only a 1/2 mile away and this is going to need quite a bit of repairs that I don't want done on the side of the street at 6:00pm Friday night. He then explained that that is the way they do things and I could pay for a tow truck myself(seriously?). He also suggested waiting till the morning to have them come out. I declined the service and got the trailer home myself. I called back today at 8:47AM and the gal explained to me that I needed something RV related in the utility trailer in order for it to be covered. So pellets does not meet that requirement. I don't think Good Sam is going to work out for me because I don't want to be told to sit on the freeway while some guy fixes my trailer and charges me for that(tire change is ok). I mostly fix everything myself and just need a tow. What if I just want it towed and deal with the problem OFF the freeway? Has anyone had some experience with the mobile repair vs towing the vehicle with Good Sam that make this service a good choice? Is this true about having something RV related in the utility trailer to get towed? Will they tow my daughters car home or does there has to be something RV related in the car? I also remember seeing a comparison with AAA insurance and how their program was superior, but I am questioning that now.

  • I have found Good Sam ERS to be very fair and when a mistake happens they go the second mile to make correction, once they are made aware of it.

    Update
Today 12-22-2015, I was contacted by Good Sam Roadside Assistance. I was told that my utility trailer should have been towed by Good Sam. I was promised a review would be done to make sure dispatch is aware of this. For my concern about safety on the side of the road concerning the mobile mechanic, he said to tell them I am not in a safe spot and I will get a tow. I'm only doing quick repairs on the side of the road.

I am totally happy with the response I received from them and will be keeping Good Sam Roadside Assistance.
    Case Closed.

  • It seems a few of us do not read the whole roadside assistance policy. Before I bought GSRA I asked and verified their policy. It covers only your primary RV, EITHER a MH or an RV Trailer (ie) tent, travel, 5th wheel etc. It also covers your tow vehicle and all other licenced immediate family vehicles, Not a utility, landscape or other special use trailers. I have both a 5th wheel and a Class A. It will cover either or but not both on the road at the same time. (eg) If I take my Class A out to a family campout and lend my Son my 5th wheel to take along and we both have a flat tire along the way. Only my declared primary RV is covered, the Class A and not the 5th whl. Hope this clarify's the ins and outs of the GSRA service. Simply know what your covered for and expect the service you purchased. You can never ask to many questions.
  • I have had GSRA tow my MH when the brakes went out, and I have had them come out and jump start my car. No questions asked; prompt, courteous service both times. They were very accommodating.
  • she then said that's not RV related and they couldn't help me.

They don't handle horse trailers either. Even if they have living quarters in them. They don't just furnish the info. You have to be specific in your inquiries.

Yup and you can have a full blown MH RV completely filled up with RV items but have your dog in it and go to a dog show and NOPE we aren't going to service you. Don't care if you have paid in for over 10 years either. :R

GS has more excuses and exceptions than carter has pills. And more and more are being added each year. Explains their insane direct mail advertising to constantly get new members to replace the ones that ask for a service call and don't get it and/or are cancelled and then drop their membership.

If a member is IN and DRIVING an RV, or TOWING an RV, it should be covered period. And where you are has nothing to do with it.

Your own vehicle insurance towing policy is FAR better with ZERO exceptions. They don't care if you are in the infield of Daytona or up on a mountain side, dog show or horse show...they just come out where they are called and get you.

I too thought I had to have an 'RV' ERS when I was a newbie. Nothing further than the truth. I'm just a slow learner! :B

  • Your experience is exactly the same as mine GSRA would not tow my trailer after the hitch broke on the MH. I cancelled GSRA that day and now have my Roadside Assistance with my insurance company( Progressive). They towed my previous MH 100 miles to an approved repair facility. The same trailer got stuck in the mud 20 feet off of a drive way in Northern MN. They were on site within 1.5 hrs and pulled it out. In each occurrence there was no delay in getting service and no squabbling about whether it was covered or not.

Check with your insurance company, you may be pleasantly surprised.
  • Good Evening Binford-BJ,
First off I want to apologize for the confusion and would like to personally speak with you so I can answer all of your questions. Please send me a private message with your contact information and I will give you a call so we can go over your membership benefits and hopefully clear up any questions you have.

Thank you...Rudy, Good Sam Response team
