My coverage expires 6-10-14. My new policy application was sent to me with an increase of almost $200. I inquired to GS. as to why the increase, explaining that I had made inquiries of 3 other co.'s and were given up to $400 less prices for the same coverage. The agent on the phone told me that the increase was due yo the fact that my wife had reached a plateau of over 50 years of driving and to expect another increase at 55 years. Our driving record is absolutely spotless and should be considered cream of the crop. Beware of this discrimination.

It's not discrimination; it's statistics. Just go with one of the other companies that quoted you less.

Then it would be the same "age discrimination" for young folks with quicker reflexes, too. Be honest. You don't see many people under 50 driving through stores or plowing through crowds. It is usually someone up there in age. You're now at the other end of the spectrum when you are getting into a higher risk area. If you don't like the price, shop around and get a better deal.

You expect sympathy.. here?? :) Insurance companies can charge whatever the market (and statistics) will bear. Playing the discrimination card won't help you. I suggest you shop somewhere else.

Welcome back to reality...you are way off base saying it is age discrimination as insurance companies will apply to all young people stating to drive and who, accoding to staistics, should or should not be driving anymore according to their age

GS does push National General (GMAC).

From a GS Insurance Exec "National General does pay higher commissions compared to the other carriers we represent." He also said "NGIC is also the only company that we presently have available for online quoting. If someone requests a quote from our website, they will get a NGIC quote."

So....that tells you right there that they make more money from National General than any other carriers and that they indeed "push" National General. I have the PM from the person that said it.

He also said that National General has more comprehensive coverage and gives the largest discount to GS members. I have to call BS on both of those. At least the last part.

Been with State farm for auto,home and RV for many years (1972) and so far no one has come close to their price for me. Know that it will sky rocket when I go full timing.
OFF-subject Mot states have a not over weight on your T/V registration. DOT got me n/o 8000# tag with 13000# dually.

16 year old drivers have higher premiums too and it's because of their lack of experience. Statistics are what the premiums are based on. A 90 year old is more of a risk than a 50 year old. A 16 year old is more of a risk than a 50 year old. Bad credit also increases premiums.

Me too. Most of these posts are not for real. They join up, no profile, make ONE post, often complaining about this or that, and never return.

However, in this case, he's apparently a GS member (if that's for real) so I'd be inclined to say it's 50-50.
