Good Sam Roadside Assistance.....CANCELLED!!!
So I used my Good Sam Roadside Assistance yesterday for the first time.
I had a blown tire on I-35 south of Ft Worth. You know what? I have GS roadside assistance that I purchased for this very situation.
My first phone call to them was at 3:10 yesterday afternoon. I gave them all the pertinent information including vehicle type, year, model, etc. They would have someone call me back as soon as they located someone to repair tire. And things went down hill from there. I won't bore you with all the details, because it truly was like a scene from the Three Stooges. If you know who that is you're showing your age:)
I made 6 phone calls before the day was over,(two of which were dropped) and each time I called, it was like nobody had a clue as to my situation or the status of my repair. Not to mention, every time I'd get transferred, they'd ask the same questions and require the same information that I gave the prior person that transferred me to them. It was absolutely insane!!!
I ended up with a kid that just didn't know how to change a tire and didn't have a clue what he was doing. (I do want to say he was very professional and apologetic, and it wasn't for a lack of trying, he just didn't have the training to change this type of tire)
And in the process, scratched and gouged my $1,200 aluminum wheel. I will be contacting Good Sam about replacing it and the result of that conversation will be a future post.
At the end of the day, I had 6 phone calls and over 5 hours of frustration to get a flat fixed. By the way, make sure you know what is and what is not covered under your plan. GS said they only covered mileage and service call expense. Then charged me $160 for the "actual service provided". In the meantime, I found a shop that would repair for $85 all in but by that time, GS had already charged my card the $160.
SO, having said all that, I just got off the phone with GS and cancelled my subscription.
Hopefully you are reading this post BEFORE you purchase Good Sam Roadside Assistance.
Update 9/11/15
So, first I want to thank Steve Miller at Transit Pros, who I'm assuming is the tire repair arm of GS. He called me as a follow-up to the service call not knowing anything of the problems I had a couple days prior.
Of course my first response was "Interesting that you called..." and proceeded to tell him the whole story including the damage to my aluminum wheel.
He listened to my issues, followed up with an email requesting pictures, and long story short, within a week, I had a reimbursement check for the wheel damage. Very professional!!
AND GS refunded the full amount of my subscription cost.
I will be resubscribing to GS and giving them another chance. This incident was handled exactly the way it should have been. Too often these days customer service is non-existent so I want to thank GS and Trans Pros in resolving this matter promptly and professionally. Thank you.
