GSRA deal

2200 hrs, received call from wife that coming home from class her car quit probably due to alternator failure. Dash lights show battery and gen lights. She coasted to ramp of shopping center on South side of lot- uphill. Next to McDonald's. No street verification but away from surface street traffic. I arrived minutes later in my car as back up.
Call made to GSRA. Call taker took info and I requested that car go to my mechanic some 11 miles from scene. She checked map found that it was 11 miles the other direction from their closest shop and I'd have to pay the $46.00 extra miles. By CC we paid. Informed that tow would be to us in 70minutes. Tow arrived 65 minutes. Went to wrong side entrance to the west at a Carl Jr restaurant area. We ran to tow driver and informed him we were at south ramp at Mcdonald's and he got to us in good fashion. Tow completed by professional as requested, By doing it this way, warranty work was done whereas had we used the closest shop recommended, I would of paid over 150.00 for parts.Call taker did a good job, dutiful, and polite. Tow driver polite and professional, within time stated. I should consider it lucky I shelled $46.00 for extra miles, but wonder why not allow some mileage to known mechanic in area, say anything in a 15-20 miles area if you have records with that mechanic? Any allowance of miles in cases like that.

Normally parts are warrantied by the parts store or the part manufacturer, not mechanics. Either way, you will need to pay the mechanic for the work regardless. Granted you have a relationship with a certain mechanic and might be preferable and cheaper as well. But as you mentioned, Zach went over the other options of the plans, such as Platinum + which gives you up to 100 miles towing to whereever you want.
  • Zach did call me today and the charges for extra miles is not a consideration for me today He was very friendly, and we discussed the various plans that are usually gone over each year by his staff- to make additions or deletions where necessary. Zach showed a caring attitude knowing what I had gone thru. Overall thru the years of service I have had with GSRA all my service calls have been met according to the outlined plan. I will continue with it..or upgrade as time goes. I thank Zach for the call today.
  • All I know is it was replaced without squabble and no charges. End of story.

It wasn't the vehicle under warranty, it was the alternator. It had been replaced less than four months ago. Had a year replacement value on it. Done.

  • Thank you for the post Greydog 1. I apologize for any confusion regarding the program benefits. I would like to review your service request with you. Please send me a private message including your Good Sam and contact information. The Platinum Plus membership allows the member to be towed to their location of choice up to 100 miles from the disablement location. Thank you, Zach
  • If vehicle is under warranty doesn't the warranty include towing to the dealer?
  • I have had my personal vehicle (not RV) towed by Coachnet three times, and every time the dispatcher asked where I wanted it towed. My request was always to the dealer, never more than 10 miles or so away, and they never balked.

When your current emergency roadside service contract expires, you should seriously consider Coachnet.

I agree with the OP's premise, what difference does it make where it is towed, 11 miles is 11 miles. Why insist it has to go to the "nearest garage"?
