How can I dispute a claim that is denied.

The Power Steps on my 2014 Thor Challenger Motor Home broke. The gear plate bolt that the Gear Assembly rides on snapped off and the steps just swing free. My Extended Service Plan Coverage says that Power Steps are covered ("22. Power Steps – Power step lines, fittings, cylinders, worm gears, electrical switches and wiring harness, entry door motor and mechanism"). The claims person said that bolts are not covered. What they are claiming to be just a bolt that is not covered is a shoulder bolt that the gear assembly is attached to allow the step electric motor to extend the step and the motor cover plate is attached. It is machined part that is part of the mechanism that makes the step extend and retract and is welded in place. How do I dispute a claim that is denied I understand it is his job to not approve claims. I want to challenge the claim being denied, is my only recourse to go to arbitration? If my only option is arbitration can you tell me how to start the process?

  • Did you take it to a shop and the shop called GS or did you personally call them asking for approval?
Sounds as though the gear assembly needs to be replaced, a seemingly covered part. If the bolt can be removed with an e-z out and replaced it probably could be done for less or close to your deductible.
  • You have to admit, GS is good at what they do: denying legitimate claims based on ridiculous technicalities.
Did you ask her where it says that bolt is specifically NOT covered?
  • I read a sample contract. The contract is silent on disputes.

SO it looks as if a lawyer is your only legal recourse.
But did you escalate the refusal with some one at GSESP?
The agent may have made an honest mistake, could have done it on purpose or may just be a poor employee

That would be the first step.
Do it email or some other method where you develop a time line and acquire names and reasons.
    EDIT
On rereading your post your contract differs from the one posted online by Good Sam and this may be causing some confusion.
The online version states " POWERSTEP SYSTEM - Coverage for power step and cover system includes all mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components"
  • I can't remember his last name but Scott is one of the GSRA top people. I had an issue with my jack system that was obsolete and couldn't be repaired and I corresponded back and forth with him about some coverage to replace the system. Possibly Scott Blanc? Maybe he would help you out!
