Indiana Diesel fuel tax and DOT number

I fueled in Indiana yesterday.

The truck stop required a DOT number to fill me up.

Since I do have a DOT number, I provided it.

But I am wondering now, what are the implications of this, is this reported somewhere? Is that related to IFTA? Do I have to file any returns or file taxes at the end of the month?

Please only respond if you know something, not if you just have opinions on liberals, taxes and so on.

  • You posted this in the Good Sam Club section and I don't think many check this section. Hopefully the moderator can move this to perhaps, the Class A or General section so more can help you.
  • OK, thanks. I have a business/company in Illinois with a DOT number, which is what I provided.

Was that against the law to provide for an RV? If so, I will try to avoid doing that in the future. I try not to break too many laws.

What are diesel RV owners supposed to do in Indiana, go to a car fueling area or what? And if I fill up a commercial vehicle, do I have to follow up on this and pay taxes at the end of the month?

I do not really understand how truck fuel taxes are handled in Indiana. In Illinois, I pay taxes at the pump and there is nothing to worry about.
  • That was a 'Trucks Only' (tax exempt) metered pump.......COMMERCIAL VEHICLES

If you did not have a DOT number you would not have been able to fuel up at that pump. You should have be asked to move.

So you did not pay fuel taxes........you will need to include appropriate number on IFTA-101 Schedule A
    Tax Rate........ http://www.iftach.org/
  • Indiana requires dot number on fuel reciepts for commercial vehicles. Not all states do this. I think, but not sure, so I will stop here
