Lack of "Assistance" from Road Side Assistance

Three weeks ago, I had the RoadMaster Invisibrake installed on my Jeep Wrangler by Camping World. Today, I drove my Jeep to eat lunch at a local restaurant.
When I started my Jeep, the Invisibrake System immediately activated when I stepped on the brake!
I called Good Sam Roadside Assistance since I did not know how to "de-activate" the Invisibrake System and wanted to be towed to a Repair Center to have my Jeep fixed.
First place they offered to take me was to Firestone. I explained that there was nothing wrong with my Jeep Brakes and that Firestone does not work on RoadMaster Systems.
I explained to the Agent that Camping World of Hope Mills were the people who installed it for me. I was then told that they were 69 miles away and that I would be charged $0.04/mile to take my Jeep there.
The Agent then chatted with a "RV Tech" who told me to disconnect whatever I was towing and the System would shut down. I explained that I was NOT towing anything!
The Agent then said the "RV Tech" told me to disconnect the Jeep from the RV. UGH! I said my RV was in my driveway and my Jeep is in the restaurant's parking lot!
She never did find a place that my Jeep could be towed to for repairs. I told her that there were two Camping Worlds "near me" but she kept telling me the "$0.04/mile" and that I could be towed to Firestone. I told her that would be a waste of time and money since Firestone does not work on Roadmaster Systems.
The Agent then said the "RV Tech" told me to disconnect the RoadMaster System from my Jeep.
I told her, if I knew how to do that, I would have already done so! I thanked her for "her time" and hung up.
This was the first and only time I have called Good Sam Roadside Assistance. I can guarantee, I will NOT call them again and I will NOT be renewing. FYI: I called RoadMaster and they told me exactly what to do. Sad

  • It's good sam's responsibility to take it to the nearest qualified repair facility. Since the customer "service" person probably understands zero about cars and is probably not given the authority necessary to believe the OP, we have an "issue"....

The OP is technically right in this case. And would likely save Good Sam some money (having to re-tow)..
  • You could have been towed to any local repair shop. And should have. It was not Good Sam's responsibility to take it to a Camping World.

An "RV" breaking system is not rocket science. Any mechanic could have fixed it.

AND having it on your car does not mean that ONLY and RV place can fix it.

When will people learn that any RV and any Toad with RV towing equipment can be worked on by ANY mechanic at any repair shop.

You DO NOT have to go exclusively to a Camping World to have it fixed!

Why on earth wouldn't you pay the "$0.04" per mile? That would have been a grand total of $2.76 for the 69 miles.

I would have had it towed to CW and then argued the case to get that big $2.76 back. even if it was 40 cents a mile that is less than $28.00.
GSRA has no connection to CW other than owned by the same company. The service contract states you will be towed to the nearest facility able to do the work. YOU DO NOT GET TO DECIDE IF THEY CAN DO THE WORK> NOR DO YOU GET TO DECIDE WHERE TO BE TOWED unless you foot the bill for the excess mileage.

MAYBE YOU SHOULD HAVE CALLED CAMPING WORLD to see what could be done

  • Remember, the Good Sams and Camping world are not about customer service, only about customers sales and getting your money. After the sale, you are on your own.
