no roadside help for tire change
Hi Marcus,c
I just took my little Toyota Dolphin on it's first 500 mile road trip from Northern CA to Mojave. Just outside of Bakersfield, CA 300 miles into the trip I blew the inside rear driver side tire on the dually rear end. I drove on the remaining tire slowly until I got to the hiway truck complex with about 50 gas stations, restaurants and motels at the intersection of two main highways: Hiway 5 major hiway in CA and hiway 41 major route to central coast in CA.
With the one ton dually rear end I needed a bigger jack to safely get the spare tire on. I called Good Sam and asked for a truck to jack and change to the spare. The 12 year old girl on the phone was absolutely useless. I gave her location and she said I needed to be in a town for her to help. Without a town she said she didn't know who to call for help. I told her Bakersfield was 20 miles south and about 250,000 population, so they must have a contact there. She said she had no way to find someone to help me and if she did, it may be 4-6 hours before any arrival, even if she did find someone.
What a frustrating, useless conversation. You have someone on the phone that has no idea how to find a tow truck to change a tire? Sure glad I didn't need big time towing or something. Your service was worthless to me and I felt like some little kid anwered the phone instead of an adult that could help. I would like to terminate my service and get a refund and find a service that actually can help before I have a real need for it.
As it was after 5PM I was able to find a truck stop a few blocks away where the owner was locking up the truck repair shop. He said he would change the tire for $100 (ouch) but I had no choice. Having no way to buy a spare tire that late, I white knuckled another 5 hours over the mountain range knowing I was out of luck if I had another flat.
Being new to Good Sam, what assurances do I have all your phone people aren't that incompetent. It took me 10 minutes to even get her to understand I was in the state of California. Do they even have maps? Very frustrating.
