Whether it's unreasonable to expect them to know or not, my experience has been that if I know what I need, I can make sure I get that on the first run - rather than waiting for multiple trucks to come and go because someone didn't share the actual length, width, height, or weight with the tow company and they guessed as to what was actually needed.

Ya I'm sure it was the dispatch's fault. Few IF ANY people call for a tow truck and specify, size of their rig, weight, length, height, full empty, gallons of water, fuel, total possible weight etc. Most calls are I'm in an RV and stuck here on the road mile maker **** come get me, click.

My son wrecked his car a few years ago. Trooper called a tow truck. Tow truck came and towed it about 8 miles to their storage yard. Our cost..... $180. That was a one time incident. A few weeks later he ran over a wheel on an off ramp and the car was disabled. Guess what? $180 again. $160 (max for platinum +) for a year seems pretty good to me to have to wait a few hours. Especially when talking about towing a motorhome or a truck and a trailer. I guess one could just put a couple hundred bucks in an interest bearing account and hope it will grow and then can access it when needed for a tow. Or they could a cc that gives them money back so that the service doesn't cost them the true amount. I would hate to see how much a tow would be for something of up to 100 miles.

I have used Good Sam Roadside Service numerous times over the last 30 years with good results. At times it take them a while to find what you need and a place to tow you.

Unfortunate that you had a difficult experience with GS. I had a totally good experience today. Standed on the Alaska Hwy 84 miles from any towing or repair shops and 3 hours after contacting GS they had a wrecker that could put my Dodge up on the deck and hooked up my 5th wheel. 3 hours back and we are in a campground and our Dodge is in the repairs shop. I would say well done.

Well it took about 6 hours total and for breaking down in the Denver area this is horrible and after all is said and done and the tow is hooking up, I get a call from GS roadside with a survey, needless to say they rate a 1 out of 5 on all counts for service.

I dropped CoachNet because they left me longer than that on highway 101 in Washington, on a weekday. The reality is that no matter how good the salesperson sounds or the brochure reads, the Big Three contract out for towing and repair services, and it is a matter of luck as to how good the service will be in a given area.
