Sorry Sam Assistance
On April 11, 2014 at approximately 10:40 am my Harley quit 27 miles north of Barstow, Calif, and 25 miles South of Baker, Calif in the middle of the desert the throttle quit working. Harley calls it limp mode where the engine runs but the throttle won’t work. This
is the 3rd time this has happened and left me stranded.
.
At 10:50 I called Good Sam Roadside Assistance and explained the situation. The bike “has” to go a dealer to be repaired because "they are the only ones who have the equipment analyze what the problem is”.
The tow would be from 27 miles north of Barstow, Ca. back to Victorville, Ca where the closest Harley dealer is. The tow would be 57 miles. The tow truck would have to travel
about 114 miles total.
This is when it started. I couldn’t get it through ladies head that the bike “had” to go to a
dealer to get it fixed. She wanted to send to a unknown motorcycle shop in Barstow. I kept
telling her it had to go to a DEALER period. Several times she would put me on hold for unreasonable lengths of time. Several times she would ask me if I was willing to pay for
the extra miles @ $4.00 per mile. I told her NO, I don’t pay for extra miles. Mind you I have the PLATINUM membership. Two years ago the bike had to be towed
from Springerville, Az 189 miles to Apache Junction. Az to a Harley dealer for the same
problem and there was no charge for “EXTRA MILES”.
After “ONE AND A HALF HOURS ON THE PHONE" going round and round with Candis she said a tow trunk
was on the way to take me to a motorcycle “shop” and because she had me on the phone so long there would be no charge for "extra miles”. That was sweet of her!!!
By this time I’m really pissed and told her hell no, just cancel the tow and forget it.
I called my wife. She had to round up our grandson and a friend to hook up my trailer and drive 120 miles to pick up the bike and myself. $80.00 in fuel, not to
mention the six hours it took……
I have been with Good Sam for 13 years and had to use Roadside Assistance several times with “NO PROBLEMS”.
Mel…..
THANK YOU GOOD SAM
