Thanks Good Sam for denying my insurance, Allstate's better

I have had Good Sam insurance for 7 years on my old trailer. Last year we sold the old trailer and I did not renew my insurance. Unfortunately, I did not notify Insurance. Just didn't renew. My mistake I guess, but didn't think it mattered as I always paid my premiums up front and didn't owe them anything. Well we bought a new trailer recently. When I call up Good Sam insurance to start new policy I was told they would not accept my business as I had let the policy "lapse". I didn't know what to do. I called Allstate my auto insurer and got much better coverage and lower price. Thanks snotty phone person you did me a service.

  • They called it a "lapse"? That's nutty.

    A lapse is:

    You have insurance
It expires and go uninsured for a span of time
Then you try to insure the same vehicle with either the same company or a different one

If you didn't do that, it wasn't a lapse.

Glad you got a better (no-hassle) deal elsewhere.

Think it has already happened. He escaped his old insurance, and got a better deal. End of story

  • Many companies seem to think because you are a steady customer you owe them some kind of allegiance. Some of the insurance companies even seem to think they can charge a cancel fee if you decide to go elsewhere when your insurance expires. It isn't a happening thing. Several years ago an email phone service actually re-submitted my credit card when I didn't renew my annual account. Actually forced me to file a fraud charge against them.

GS seems to be bordering on these tactics a lot lately. I switched ERS. Next will be insurance then I no longer need the GS club. I suspect my insurance would be a lot cheaper with another company.
