110 hookup only ???

I often say 110 and I wasn't even alive in the 40's. Explain that? How about this, if I say I have 110 volt outlets in my house, do you assume I have a really old house with really old outlets, or do you assume I'm no electrician and I really have 120 volt outlets in my house? Does anybody really not know what the OP's original question was, or was everybody just trying to impress us with their electrical knowledge?

I would assume you are no electrician period!!!!!

The OP's original question is that he has a 50 amp RV and wants to plug into a 15 am outlet...

Its obvious.... He wants to know if its ok...

The real question is does he get one leg or two with the dog bone....

You will not have issues but need to watch what you use..

I feel your pain. You can always spot the really really old electricians because they still say 110/220.
That was the standard up until about the end of WWII. Then the standard was raised to 117/234. You can still find some old equipment marked 117v form time to time. In the '60s the standard was raised again to 120/240. So, you had to be an electrician in the '40s to think it's 110v. But, people still say it.

50A RV service IS 120/240 AC with TWO 50 a breakers.

TWO legs of 120.

We spent six weeks in a friends backyard on a 20amp breaker, fridge and waterheater on gas, ran microwavew when needed, Mr Coffee in the morning, toaster as needed, ran the furnace a few nights when it got cool.

You will get 50 amps but only on one leg... Still your at the mercy of the 30 amp breaker..

I often plug my 30 amp RV into the 50 amp outlet with the adapter while camping... This gives me more amps and less likely of brown outs during summer...

If the two hots were tied togther I believe you would get dead short... why 50 to 30 is only one leg..

Should be the same with 13-20 to 50... one leg...

50 amp service is not 240v! It is two standard 30 amp hot leads with a common neutral and a mechanical ground. The shore side will have two separate 30 amp breakers leading to the 4 wire cord receptacle. Though you can read 240 across the hot prongs each leg will read 120 from neutral.

Cant fing a ling to show proof but just read yourself many sites out there..

This adapter adapts a 50 amp connection to a 30 amp cord, not the other way around. An adapter used to connect a 50 amp cord to a 30 amp connection has the 30 amp hot tied to both 50 amp hots.

Have never seen a 30 amp male to 50 amp female that did not tie the single hot on the 30 amp end to BOTH hots on the 50 amp end. So, all circuits in the coach have power.

But, you must limit total usage to under 30 amps.

And a 15 amp male to 30 amp female, used "in front of" a 30 male to 50 female will again power all coach circuits, but you will be limited to 15 amps total consumption.
