12 volt fuse

I have a small problem that needs some advice. Recently my jacks (HWC) would not retract because no power was going to the switch. I opened the 12 volt fuse box under the dash to try and troubleshoot the issue. When I removed the fuse box cover, a 5 amp fuse dropped to the floor. Ah, Ha, there is the problem. Nope, it was something else, not the wayward fuse. I need to know where the fuse goes in the fuse box but there is nothing in my owners manual or on the fuse cover which tells me. Is there another way for me to fine out?

  • I am assuming you have empty fuse holders and trying to figure out if one of them should be active.

The problem you will have is if the circuit has a missing fuse and there is a switch in line and the switch is "off" then your test would not work.

On a fuse block (usually) all the fuses are connected to the 12V on the same side and the load side will be individually connected to a wire that goes somewhere and the non used fuse slots will not have a wire connected.

The jacks are working. They were not getting power through the starter switch even though the engine and everything else was working. I turned off the engine and when I restarted it, the power came on for the jacks. A thought came into mind, what if I used a light tester to jump one side of the fuse holder to the other side? Would that indicate power to a fuse location or cause a short?

Yes that is how u test to see if theres power to the fuse but you dont have to jump it across just ground the tester and check the prongs that the fuse inserts into and see if theres power on one side and also to see if the fuse is any good you ground the tester and check both sides of the fuse.Fuse good both sides will power test lite

  • Are your jacks working yet? Check all the open fuse locations for those that have two metal connectors in them. Usually manufacturers will only put in the connectors for the items they use and end up leaving one side of the fuse location with a metal connector and the other side just a blank.
  • I am sure it is not a spare. Last year I was replacing all the fuses with new ones and this fuse might not have been seated properly.

Are you sure it's not just a spare fuse? Rare to have a fuse just fall out. What small item (low amp) is not working?

It may be just a spare fuse.Lots of outfits include spare fuses.
It would be more than obvious if there is a fuse missing
Most all the time the MAIN pump fuse for your HWH jacks are in the pump/solnoid area and usually are 30amp(green)
there are a couple other fuses of smaller sizes in the same area and most likely 15A which most likely supplys switch power
