1997 Country Coach

Hello, new to the forum looking for some insight and opinions on a older CC that I came across and any issues I should look out for. The motorhome is close to my house and just sits, ive seen it moved one time in a the last few years. I was going to leave a note since the residence is not lived at, but happened to catch the owner there the other day. He said he might sell but needed to talk it over with the wife first. It was running when I pulled up and it sounded nice and quiet. Odometer was right at 72k
The exterior clear coat is a bit flakey but no body damage and the inside was quite nice with no issues that I saw. It's not a popout which I would rather have but if the price is right I'll deal with it. What issues should I look for? I figured tires, hoses etc and water leaks. What would a good price be for this rig?
I would be using it to run out of town for fun for the weekend or holidays and stuff like that with my family and be able to pull an older Bronco with no problems. Thanks for any and all input!!

For $20K plus another $5K in tires and batteries and $2K for a residential refrigerator you should have a nice no slides hard to sell DP. For the $30K he probably wants you could start with ono with a slide.
  • Looks like a real nice coach.

When a MH sits for long periods of time the brake calipers and exhaust tend to rust. You will need to check that out.

You saw the owner running it so that is a good thing that they were starting it up regularly. Perhaps you just didn't see him moving and/or driving it regularly. Sounds like the owner knows what he is doing in regards to maintaining a parked MH.

If the owner kept up on maintenance on the coach IMHO there is nothing wrong with buying an older RV.

I have bought several older model MH's in my past time as an RV'er and they all brought me many miles of repair free traveling. Don't let others scare you away from buying used.
  • The important thing to think about is, if it's not your dream after a short time, can you sell it? I would estimate somewhere in the mid twenties to mid thirties... but it's so easy to buy a coach that leaks or has issues.

You might go over to http://www.irv2.com/forums/ and join up and check in the Country Coach section. You may get a better answer there. But you need to see what it really looks like. It will need tires, see if there are any leaks, water is a killer.
