When you say added tolls are only cents I just shake my head in amazement. A good example of tolls adding to operating cost is crossing PA on the turnpike.
The cost for such a crossing with a coach that weigh 30,001 to 45,000 including toad. That would be five axles, a minor factor, since three axles is only $10.20 lower than five axles.
To cross PA is 356.68 miles vis turnpike and the toll is $121.80 for th erig outlined above. Or to look at in your pennies context $.34 per mile. That is over half of your fuel cost per mile which we all try to kep as low as possible so adding over 50% to the cost per operating mile isn't exactly peanuts.
While tires are certainly expensive when purchased if we use $700 per tire as a cost basis and 50,000 miles as an average before replacement the cost per mile per tire is about $.03, that's pennies.
