My 2014 Dodge Ram 5.7 hemi has a 3.92 rear axle ratio. Would I be good to pull a 26' travel trailer with a dry weight of 4800. I put between 700/800 pounds of "stuff" in the trailer and another 300 in the bed of my truck, with two passengers. Do I have enough axle to safely pull this trailer?

As long as you have a weight distribution hitch I say good to go.May not tow in top OD much and that is normal.

You're better off than those with 3.73 and higher axles. My F150 was a 5.4 with a 3.73 and I hauled an 8,400lb FW.

You should be fine with your Ram Truck (It isn't a Dodge, they split). The Hemis have more payload than my diesel. Make sure you have a good Weight Distribution Hitch.

How do you relate axle ratio to safety? Unless you mean transmission stain.Does the Ram have a towing package? If so, the axle ratio should match the load rating, if not you have other problems.

I tow my 21BHS (about 4500 pounds loaded) with my 2009 Ram 1500 with the 3.92 rear end and 4.7L V-8. Truck is great and have had no problems at all, including heading out west to Arizona and Utah.

We really need more information to help you figure this out.

What is the TV GVWR?
What is the TT GVWR?
What is the actual loaded weight of the TV?
Do you have a tranny cooler?
Do you tow in the mountains?
What kind of lube is in the axle?
What color is the TV?
What color is the TT?
What kind of beer do you drink>
What is your sign?

Once you get all of this info together, we will be able to help you much better.

I think he has 5.7L and 8-spd trans. Plenty of power. Use tow/haul mode and you may want to limit the gear range to not use 6/7/8. Payload will be your only potential concern, but probably fine. Get a WDH with integrated sway control and learn how to adjust it.

First of all are you SURE it's a 3.92?

My Dodge info for that year shows for the 2500 only a 3.73 or a 4.10 Or 3.42 with the diesel available

Do you have a 1500?

Even with a 1500 you will be fine. But the axle ratio is not as important when you have a transmission that has the 6 speeds like the dodge. Axle ratios must be considered in tandem with the transmission gear ratios and how many gears are available.

Don't sweat the ratio.

You won't have a problem. I have a similar TT behind a 5.7 Hemi with 3:55 rear and it takes even the mountains without a whimper.

I pulled a 28 ft. (31 foot total length) Passport with a similar weight to yours with the same truck several years ago. I had a good WDH, a brake controller, and it towed great. Just take it out of overdrive.

You will probably be fine, but look on your drivers door jamb for a yellow sticker with your cargo capacity. Post the numbers here and we can help you figure it out.
