Thanks j-d. If I was doing chemo weekly knowing at best it was not going to buy me much time I would appreciate someone's help to find our MH an new home so the wife did not have to deal with it.

Now my son knows how to deal with a new generator that has not been started in 10 years and to fix a hole in the cab over of an RV. He did take a lot of effort and got all the tire pressures correct as well. While I am not the best teacher helping the family did give us about 10 hours together at may not have happened otherwise. They did give him some money for washing it and that offset what I spent on gas, Seafoam, carb cleaner, etc. I showed him how to detail around the hood/door openings.

He is starting to pick up odd jobs at the age of 16 because he knows so much about doing things. This week he has a fence row to work on using the DR Field and Bush 17 HP 2 wheel bushhog. The belt was jerking and knocking bad after we helped clean up a stroke patient overgrown yard last summer so we just parked it. With the fence row cleaning job option we got it out this last week end to see what had broken. He flipped it over on its side and all the issue was a short piece of limb had wedged in the rear belt drive V pulley.

After he dug it out of the pulley he put it in the woods at the house for about 20 minutes so I could watch him operate in adverse conditions then we washed it up well and put it on the battery charge. After being parked for a year the 12v AGM battery started it fine with the old gas in it. It is a 17 HP Kawasaki engine.

The twins have a super mom that has taught them to be caring people. The daughter is more into working with her mini horses than greasing the backhoe but she knows painting, plumbing and how to repair equipment as well when she has the need in the future.

I enjoyed getting to work with a new like 10 year old MH and learned a lot myself. The kids and I know MH repairs from working with our MH on the 1992 P30 Chevy chassis over the years with the help of many right here on RV.NET so thanks to each of you who help we new folks become experienced folks.

Had we been able to buy a new MH we would have missed 95% of what we have gained out of MH ownership in our case. The kids were 9 when they asked for a MH and both have stated they regretted many times asking for a MH. :)

The 31 day 8000 mile trip that permitted them to learn to surf on their 14th birthday in the Pacific Ocean at Carlsbad CA and the many stops going and coming through 16 states was their big reward for years of hard work. Dad learned a lot about being a dad of teenagers since mom stated home working and taking care of the animals.

Our kids will soon be gone and I have to say buying a 1993 32' MH has been one of the worse and best things we have done as a family but the worse parts were truly important learning experiences for us all. :)

More than the genset: Gale, you demonstrated and your son learned helping and sharing. The most valuable thing we have: Time. Good on Both of YOU!

Today I saw the MH was gone so I hope the deal went well and it made the 350 mile trip home OK. I should learn the details next weekend. I am glad the son got the experience and we got a generator that had not been ran for 10 years showing .2 hour to running again without pulling the carb. The gas in the fuel line really looked like cherry syrup and it would not fire except on carb cleaner.

Buying a new like 10 year old MH for under 50% of retail price could be a good deal for the buyer.

Today we ran the genset on pure Seafoam (hitting it with carb cleaner spray can from time to time to keep it running), 50%, straight gas, 50% again then 100% Seafoam to set it soak again for a day or two. On straight gas it pulled the roof AC and a 250 watt work lamp for a load. It was much smoother today on straight gas but not perfect yet.

The owner had hit a limb and made a hole in the plastic cab over on the upper right corner a couple inches before the rubber roof starts. It was about the size of a small egg. We cleaned the surface and used Door and Window insulating spray foam to fill the hole and to cement a piece of thin aluminum over the hold. This approach keeps you on the ladder a long time because you have to hold it in place as it cements on the bottom side to the cab over.

We then took a pocket knife and trimmed away the dry foam and re cleaned it well and covered with two pieces of Eternabond Web Seal and gave it a UV protective layer. I was impressed with the look and feel of that approach.

The owners want to show it this next weekend. Now that the roof is sealed and the generator running well enough to pull the roof AC much better today it will mainly be cleaning more inside and out to have it ready to show.

We added Seafoam to the gas tank today and ran the V-10 engine to mix the fuel and Seafoam. For a new generator that was not started for 10 years (showed .2 hours my son said before we started messing with it) I have been impressed that is is now run so so and getting better. It has been hard work but it is for a good cause because this would have been expensive if taken to an RV Center and it was good shop project for the son to be involved with. At least the roof is stronger on the right corner than when new.

The MH looks new inside and outside. The owner had some PB Blaster ' engine fogging' spray (never saw it before) but after loading up the totally clean (white) air filter we got it to run roughly pulling the roof AC for 12 minutes on high cool. I think the PB Blaster (for spraying in the spark plug hole actually) helped by adding a little fuel and by acting like a choke to help pull more gas through the carb jets. Hopefully by the end of the day we will have made more progress on the generator that set without running for 10 years. It is an Onan 4000 gen set is all that I know.

ONAN "Micro" genset, KY Series? The folk I bought ours from had to replace carburetor and logic board to put the coach up for sale. Then let it stand a couple months and it needed a carburetor again.
My guess would be that if it cranks over freely, it might be OK with a new carburetor. Or... there could be corrosion within the generator portion, brushes and slip rings, where it'll run but not produce electricity. If the undercarriage isn't covered in rust, since genset spins, my guess would be not a lot of corrosion and betting on just a carb (nearly $200 new) would be pretty safe.

The son and I tried to start the generator on this MH that is owned by by brother's SIL/BIL. It would start and run on carb cleaner but not without it. We drained the fuel out of the carb bowl and it looked more like cherry syrup. We drained until it started looking like gas but it still would not keep running for more than 10 seconds without a shot of carb cleaner. We will look at it again tomorrow since it was about dark before we showed up today. The wife stated they had not used the generator on this MH so we looked after we had been messing with it for a while and it showed .8 hours. That means it is a 2005 generator with less than an hour of run time.

j-d the friend of the daughter who is going to look at it is into boating and asked about the deep cycle battery so I expect they have money pit experience. :)

Your points on the brakes is good. I did learn yesterday the MH has not been parked but for the last two years but living in a rural area the MH was taken out on the road from time to time. I only drove it on the road from one driveway to the other driveway but the brakes and all seemed normal but over that distance one could have been dragging without knowing it. My son topped of the tire pressures and none were close to being flat because the friends of the family would have a 350 mile drive home if they bought it.

The roof looked good and all. The chassis looks new like with not rust showing like on the rear springs/frame where I could see in front of the rear tire. I do think it will be a good deal for most buyers. I felt better learning the seller knows its retail value setting on a dealers lot and they knowing priced it to move knowing what is in front of them.

It'll make a good deal for somebody who realizes they'll have some work and/or expense to get it travel-ready and reliable again. For example, I'd be very surprised if it doesn't need or soon require a full four-wheel brake job. Rotors should be OK even with rust if it can be cleaned off, but I'd imagine the calipers are sticky or stuck and the four hoses to the calipers replaced. Pads might be OK. I have a front-brake-job-in-a-box left over from the front axle replacement I did on our 2002 E450 but no extra rear brake parts.

Stopped by to check on how the batteries were recovering using the B&D DeSulf Mode and a non automatic (no computer features) and we were able to completely restore the 1.5 year old WM starting battery and I think the house battery is to become serviceable for a As Is sale. The owner said he was aware that $14K was 50% of the price a dealer would ask with new tires, detailed and with a 90 day warranty but due to never plan on getting to use it he wants it gone.
