2022 Tiffin - F-53 Chassis - Brakes

We picked up our new 2022 Tiffin Open Road 36LA a couple weeks ago and drove it about 60 miles down I-4 to the storage facility. The one thing I noticed right off the bat is the brakes seemed rather poor.

This should have disc brakes and the pedal seemed to have a lot of travel and had to be pushed rather hard to stop. I realize I am stopping a 24,000 lb. vehicle but it felt like it had non-power manual brakes. It almost seems like there might be air in the lines like it wasn't properly bled.

Trying to find out of this is normal or if I need to get this checked out before we hit the road in a couple of weeks.

    Hmm, Just how old is your F53? They have had 4-wheel disks for years.


    It is a 2016 Canyon Star 3911 handicap equipped. Dealer said it was not disc brakes. I have not crawled under to see. Sure does not stop like discs

    Under normal stopping, the brakes feel hard and like it doesn’t want to stop. Push harder like a panic stop and it will stop far better than you think. I always thought mine was poor at stopping until I laid on the brakes when someone decided to stop at a yellow light and we were all doing 60 mph. Let me tell you, it stops faster than my Ford Excursion did!

    Take it for a few drives and try to avoid any hard braking, just heat the rotors and let them cool to seat in the new pads.

    I'd take it for a few more drives first. Being new you may need to 1) get used to it, and 2) work them in a little.

    If after that you still have concerns by all means get it looked at.

    It's a Ford and no, other than taken a DP out for a test drive which I know is completely different as it has air brakes, I have nothing to compare it to other than a 26' U-Haul with a 12' trailer both fully loaded.

    I would say Ford given that it's a 2022.

    I guess we would need to know what you are comparing it to. Have you driven a Class A MH before or are you comparing it to a passenger vehicle?
