5500 kodiak brake questions

I have 2008 road warrior with 5500 Kodiak chassis. Can someone answer the following questions please.

1. The red light below the radio with brake and wrench comes on periodically and then goes off with engine cycle on/off. Is this a problem? What is causing it?

2. The "something" makes lots of noise when I step on the brakes. Do you know makes the buzzing sound?

3. I have no brake lights on RV?

4. My RV does not seem to have the blue brake controller sticking out of harness?

Thanks

Pat
  • Also anyone found any place to get OEM or even non OEM carper and floor mats for cab?
  • Took apart the plastic switch on brake light and emery clothes three contactors inside. This fixed the brake light and the annoying rattle when stepping on brakes.

Can anyone described the exact location of the other part that lights idiot light below radio? I cannot seem to find it. Also what is the idiot light supposed to warning of?

Went to take RV to storage and and stalled out a light. Would not restart. Beware the Duramax MUST have frequent fuel filter changes. Fuel filter cost $30 tow out of middle of road cost $100. I for one will do every oil change now.
  • The brake and wrench light will come on at start up to check the system .If the light stays on its the part on the master cylinder. Bill
  • Most common is the number I gave you. The one on master cylinder is flow switch for Hydro Boost. Either one can cause light to come on.
  • You need this part gm#12376006 it goes on the master cylinder it control the wrench and brake light good luck Bill
  • Answer #1 above is correct. Had the same symptoms on a 2006 and the switch was the problem.
  • 1. You may have a brake switch going bad. You can pickup one from most auto part stores. Part # 25771554. Usually less than $20.
    2. The noise you hear is Hydro Boost working. It is normal when engine is not running. When engine is running power steering pump provides the boost.
    3. Had a similar problem on my Endura recently. Found that ground wire for all rear lights had broken off. Replaced wire and hooked back up to frame. Some Kodiak's have fuses instead of circuit breakers. There is also a separate relay for brake lights. Fuses are under dash panel on passenger side of dash. Need a 10mm wrench to remove screws. Do you have running lights at back?
    4. If you have a brake controller hooked up on your MH. It may not be wired properly. On the Kodiak brake controller should be hooked to the light blue wire in the wire harness called out in Bulletin 66. The wires called out in Bulletin 66 can be found on inside of passenger frame. Look on frame near end of cab. This can also be reason for brake switch failure in item 1 above.
  • Sounds like an ABS issue-Have you checked your brake fluid?

Honestly, this is a chassis specific question-is there a medium duty forum that Kodiak owners communicate on?
