A Boxer Engine In A Class C??? Yes/No?

So all you gear heads out there, could you imagine a Boxer engine powering a B+, Class C, or Super C Motor Home? You'll probably say no, but before you nix that idea, check out the FORD 2017 F-150 with a 2.7L Boxer engine TurboCharged & SuperCharged that gets an ave. of 37 MPG (Gas) & 42 MPG (Diesel). Go to: www.tfltruck.com and watch the video before you answer yes or no! Bags. PS: You can learn more about this engine at: www.achatespower.com.

  • I find it absolutely amazing that no one here took the time to watch the video! In the video it describes how WWII German bombers airplanes could fly non stop from Germany to South America on one tank of fuel with these amazing engines. The Allied didn't have any bombers that could fly that far without refueling! If you did take 3-4 minutes to watch the video, then perhaps you would have found it as interesting as I did!

I've heard that if you want to re-power a VW "bus" a Subaru Boxer goes well in the rear. If you want to re-power a VW/WBO Rialta, a Chevy V6 goes well in the front...
  • If there's an appropriate chassis with one, it might happen. I don't think there's anything inherent in a boxer engine vs. a V or inline engine that would make it especially suitable or unsuitable for motorhome duty. Small aircraft have used boxer engines for eons, and that's hardly light duty operation (cruising for hours on end at 75% power).

Fitting a boxer of reasonable size in a standardish van chassis would probably be quite difficult. You can't really make the Ford doghouse any wider. Something like the promaster or other forward control chassis, where the engine is basically underneath the cab, would probably a little more reasonable for packaging.
  • I love my 3.0L H6 Boxer, in my 2300 lbs Subaru Wagon with the old school purely mechanical Symetrical AWD. Mine doesn't have or need a turbo however.

Can't imagine it in something as heavy as an F150 or even heavier class a.
