A couple of great trips coming up...

We are leaving Monday for 5 days up at the Pine Grove CG {just south of Flagstaff}, to beat the heat and do some serious motorcycle rides {Mt Humphries, Meteor Crater etc.}. The Monsoon is forecast to arrive just about every afternoon for the foreseeable future {Hooray!}.

When we get back it will be a 5 day trip to San Diego {without the RV}, to attend to some family business and then our big {15 day +/-},summer trip as soon as we return to Tucson. We'll be towing the Harley behind the Class C to my friends place in Angel Fire for a few days. Then we will leave the RV there and ride over to Durango on the bike.

After a fun night at the Strater Hotel downtown we will do the ultimate bike ride.... highway 550 from Durango up to and through Silverton to Ouray {the "Million Dollar Highway"}. A night at the Ouray Hotel after an afternoon at the local hot springs spa will be followed by a nice ride to Norwood where we will stay with RV friends for a couple of nights.

We'll ride back to Durango to spend a night with some other friends before making the ride back through Pagosa Springs returning to Angel Fire for a few more days at our very own private one site RV Park {my buddy put in a custom site complete with water and power for me when he built his dream home 3 years ago}.

We break the ride to/from Angel Fire into 2 days which makes for an easy ride through some of the most gorgeous mountains in the state to ride some of the greatest MC roads in the country which is always way too much fun!

Been watching the news 40 fires in something like 12-15 states.Your neck of the woods map showed 6 , you guys doing ok ?

Yep, got several between Tucson and Flagstaff but nothing burning where we are headed... at the moment. With the predicted Monsoon storms this week most of the fires should get knocked down pretty well. Everything at the higher elevations is very green with less fire danger thanks to the incredibly wet winter we had. It snowed in Flagstaff when we were up there in May.

A week at 8,000' with a nice long ride every morning is just what the proverbial doctor ordered after enduring the warmest spring/intro to summer in 12 years. Hope to get back up your way this September/October and hopefully we can get together for a ride... we are overdue. Take Care.

  • DC,

Great trip plans! We like the mountain areas of the SW, and some of their desert areas too.

Last fall we were in Western Colorado for awhile touring and camping with friends. Just outside Durango a very few miles is a beautiful NF campground for drycamping. Sites are spaced apart nicely and completely in the trees. I wish I could recall the name of it - you might want to web-search around Durango to find it.

Here's a photo of us with our Class C and our friends with their TT in that campground outside Durango:

  • Safe travels and enjoy the trips. Sounds like your all set for an outstanding vacation. Take lots of pictures for us!
