A couple of questions for the group.

Hi Folks,

We ran a class A Pace Arrow back when the kids were the size of our Grand babies today. With just the 2 of us now we are setting up a C.

I was wondering if you would care to share, how old is your unit, how often to you upgrade and how many miles a year do you travel?

Or perhaps it would be better to ask "What is the life expectancy for you RV?"

  • We got our 2004 Bigfoot when the kids were in school and still have it. Running strong. Only have about 30K miles on it. Use it several times a year. Usually 2-3 days. We're in Northern California and everywhere we visit is less than a day's drive. But, we use it more as a spare bedroom when we have visitors! :)

  • The first key is keeping the roof sealed religiously. And also the lower cabover seams.
Beyond that, plastics start giving up around year 8.

Older than that, plan on replacing stuff regularly. Maybe small stuff, but still. But if you like your rig, that is just something you do.

In a perfect world, selling at year 8 is not a bad idea.

I really think the answer to that depends mostly on how much money you can stand to part with to sustain this "hobby".

I have a Winnie going on 10 years old. It has about 50K miles on it.
It is showing its age a bit but works perfectly......after fixing a few things of course.

Since I don't have a lot of money to throw around, I expect it will last another 10 years......and it may outlast me with the next owner.

But I also realize that it wouldn't be acceptable for some folks because it does not LOOK all shinny and new anymore.
  • Our 2003 Winnebago Minnie 24' class C has also been great for us. Owned since new and now have 105,000 miles. New tires twice and all maintenance done by me in the driveway at home. A couple of very minor issues while traveling, but nothing that couldn't wait until we got back home. No idea about life expectancy but at least figure several more years.

Usually just the two of us but our son did meet us out west a few times.
  • My Toyota seems to just go and go. We do run into the occasional problem with it but nothing too serious. I would say we go about 10k per year in it or so. Sometimes I think USING a coach is far better than letting one sit and age - because if you do that, everything seems to break the first time after a long sit. They need to be used.
  • Our 2003 Winnebago 29' Minnie Class C has been good to us. We have owned her for five years. We have replaced the tires, and done regular maintainace. She has 65,000 miles on her. We put about 7,000 miles last year, which is more than usual.

We usually travel with the two of us, or with two grandchildren. Sometimes we camp at one place a week or two, sometimes we travel, moving around place to place.
I'm not sure if this will be helpful or not.
