Added gear for newer F53's

While researching a new rig, I discovered that Ford has added an upgraded transmission to the V10 chassis with an additional gear for cruising at lower RPM's. I have not found very much information about this online. Does anyone have more detail about this new upgrade? I also heard the new V10 is producing less horsepower than it's predecessor. Pros-Cons?
  • I have the new six speed. It is very smooth and works well.
  • The new 6 speed trans in 6th gear is the same as the 5 speed in 5th gear, no RPM change, it just adds 1 extra gear for closer shifting and such.

I knew someone that replaced his fairly new 2012 motorhome with a 5 speed to a new 2016 6 speed trans motorhome because he hated how the 5 speed shifted in the hills, he lost thousands in trade in and I told him 5 Star Tuning for $425 fix the 5 speed issue, his jaw dropped to the ground he did not know about the 5 Star Tuning.

Also the new 2016 V-10 with 6 speed has 42 less HP..
  • I've heard the new trans works well with it. I have not heard any complaints.
  • For 2016 a 6 speed transmission has been added. The HP has been reduced to 320. The torque stays about the same.
Some are having a problem with the Tow/Haul function. 5 Star tune has a fix.

  • Same engine, different transmission. My new mh has it. Runs well. On the iRV2 website in the Ford thread there is lots of discussion. Most think the new tranny is a good change, quieter. There is also some discussion that for some the tow/haul and down shifting do not work as advertised or as well as the 5 speed.
