After-market side view mirrors, suggestions ?

Question for lawtonglen: did you replace the arms also? I have the Velvac 2020 standard head also on my Itasca Spirit and in an email the Velvac tech guy pointed out that the mirror post on the deluxe head is offset and for that reason the arm for the deluxe is 1.5 inch shorter. Did you install on your 2020 standard arms and, if so, did you have any issues with the the mirrors extending an extra 1.5 inch?

Yes, please send pix. The mirror you linked to is akin to the one I'm trying to ID for you. It's supposedly a little safer to keep your mirrors below your eye level, so adding a mirror below is preferable.

I will take some pictures when I get back home and post them. I have taken off a small round tiny convex mirror which was doing absolutely no good seeing on the right side blind spots whatsoever.

I'm not sure which mirror you're referring to. I see a bunch of mirrors when I go to that link. What type/style mirror do you have now ?

we also have some knowledge about wines, we live in Anderson Valley California and have really a monoculture of wines I this valley. We just wish there was more bio diversity in this are as it used to be sheep, apples,goats, pears, timber and smaller amounts of wine. It seems large multi national want in where we lose the ability to be a small farm culture region.

I looked around and found this as a alternative.. Hope that it may work, I have read the reviews and most seem to be on the positive side.

what are your thoughts on this after market mirror ?

I trust you have the Velvac Single Arm mirrors... Mostly on Rental Trucks, I've seen a supplemental wide angle mirror that attaches to the bottom edge of the Velvac head. I looked where I thought it was available, which is www.ryderfleetproducts.com but didn't see it in a quick look. Then again some of their products were missing the photo.
As personal preference, I don't think the little stick-on spots and wedges provide enough "look" for out kind of driving. I also don't like the idea of covering some of the precious few square inches the main mirror offers.
We have the Velvac "tripod" mounts with plain old mirror heads so I did this:


Different setup, I know. If you can find the add-on I tried to find, you can add a very neat-looking convex extension on the bottom of the single-arm Velvac.

I like the small round aftermarket stick-on fish-eyes. They're available for a few bucks from any big-box auto parts store. My favorites are the ones that are slightly adjustable in their stick-on base. The small image takes a bit of getting used to, but they totally eliminate any blind spot on left or right. But I spent five years in my mis-spent youth driving pickups with windowless cargo shells; got lots of practice in a half-million miles.

Without knowing what you have for mirrors its kind of hard to recommend improvements. I added 7" round convex truck mirrors to my OEM el-cheapo mirrors.
