After thoughts of a manifold change.
After much mashing of teeth, and one problem after another our manifold change is complete.
I got the forward portion of the two piece manifold in place, only to find the after portion must go in first. after removing the forward part and bolting the after portion in place I find the forward portion won't go on if the aft part is tight, loosening the aft part I'm successful in getting both parts installed, bolted and torqued. so I call it a day.
Second day, I try to install the turbo and find the turbo mount nuts can't be reached with out removing the manifold.
Remember I removed the turbo with the broken part of the old manifold attached and separated them on my bench.
So most of the second day I spend starting over. and getting the turbo attached to the after portion of the manifold and putting all three pieces together as a unit. then called it a day.
Third day is spent getting the heavy three piece unit down thru the hole under the bed and into place on the engine, the rest of the day was spent getting all 12 bolts and spacers and gaskets installed. only to find there is 1 bolt that can not be torqued with the turbo in place by the tool I have. being Sunday I can't buy the universal 13mm X 3/8" socket I need. so I call it off for another day.
Fourth day, torque the manifold, replace all the inter cooler ducting, hook up the exhaust and engine brake ducts get all the hangars back in place and tighten every thing. then start picking all the tools and support stuff out of the couch. clean every thing up and get ready to start the cummins. I decide the mess should be re-inspected after it sets over night.
Fifth day. Give the job a good inspection, find a tool I'd missed than checked the oil and get ready to start, the cummins starts right up runs great, except, I have no EGT or Boost pressure readings.
Day 6 I spend trouble shooting the system to find all gauge readings come from the Banks Module on the after market intake and exhaust package. Banks tells me there are two LEDs that show the module is getting power, neither are lighted. the rest of the day is spent tracing wires to trying to discover which is power and ground Finally calling Banks again they tell me the pin numbers to the module + Pin 14 and ground - Pin 6. After unwrapping the whole bundle from the module to the engine I find there is a fuse in line to pin 14. and its blown. this fuse is not on either banks wire diagrams or the cummins wire skit.
I change the fuse and every thing works again.
We be good to go again. :)
Next we clean the coach inside and out winterize and get ready for spring.
