Air Conditioning cycling on and off

Hi all,

On our 01 Monaco the front air conditioner seems to work fine for say an hour after we set up. Then the A/C will shut down for a couple of seconds, then start up for a couple of seconds and then down and up and on and on and on.

Both volt meters on the wall show about 118/120 volts on each when running the generator and with the air either on or off. There appears to be no cycling with the generator on.

With the generator off and running on the 30 amp receptacle from the house, the meters show about 115/116 volts with the air off and about the same with the air running. This is when the cycling on and off starts. Nothing else is on in the coach except the refrigerator.

I checked the circuit breaker in the coach and all seems well, the transfer box in the basement seems a little warm (my imagination as it is 90 degrees?), the 50 amp/30 amp extension cables to the plug in are not warm at all, and the junction box in the garage looks ok.

Anyone have any ideas as to what could be going on?

Thanks
Wayne

  • Maybe on the verge of not enough power. If you have a power management system it could be doing its job and not letting the trip happen. Thus your air is cycling.

Just a guess of course. Don't hold me too it :h
  • I bet the freeze up detector..(located under the front cover is in a place that gets a bit cold and thus cycles it off..it gets warm again and then cycles it on...search the net for the proper place for the freeze up sensor and make sure it is there...right in that place...you could take it off and run the AC and see if it starts cycling...if not, you found it...and then just find the install manual as to the proper place of the sensor.
