Air dryer filter change out
I have a 2012 tag axle Freightliner. Just got finshed changing all my oil and fuel filters on the engine and jenny. Saw the air dryer filter housing on top of the rear axle. Thinking about changing it...

"AikenRacer".....I have a 2014 Freightliner tag axle chassis and when I looked at the air dryer, I figured I would have to find a small double jointed boy to get up in there and service it. I haven't done mine yet (will wait to the three year mark), but I heard that it's easier to remove the unit and then service it.
I like to always have spare filters and tried to buy one at my Freightliner dealer. He said it required an exchange and was expensive. I don't know how true the exchange part is. I'll be waiting to see what others post.
I was really surprised when I read the Freightliner Service intervals. They wanted everything changed at the six month mark including the draining and flushing of the fan drive gear box. My Freightliner dealer said they never heard of that and didn't even carry the flush. The service also called for draining all of the power steering fluid. I decided to just change the filter. I'll wait a couple of years and change the fan drive fluid.
