Puller fans are more efficient than pushers.

Actually diesels run cooler in the engine compartment. That is why all ambulances are now diesel. There were a LOT of gas engine ambulances that had engine compartment fires in the late 90's and all the builders switched to diesels.

Pablum...I saw a gas ambulance last week.

Diesel is a safer fuel than gasoline. If they were having alot of ambulance fires with gas engines, switching to diesel was a good idea. A better idea would be to find out what was causing the fires and fix that...

Cooling is really a matter of simply putting in larger & better cooling systems. A much larger radiator for instance and more electric fans if needed...

Interesting. I thought the switch was made because ambulances have become so large (F450 and F550 sometimes) and due to constant running / idling.

Constant idling is not good on a diesel.

Did you ever wonder why a diesel engine of the same size as a gasoline engine has such a large oil capacity? That is because the oil is used to carry away some of the heat that is generated by the engine.
Increasing the oil capacity on a gasoline engine would accomplish the same thing and with a properly designed radiator, should have no problems with overheating. It's not rocket science to design a rear gasoline engine coach. It is just the lack of demand.
