Awning Screen for A&E Motorized Awning

I am about to add a Carefree 6X17 Sunblocker awning screen to my 21' A&E motorized awning to cut down on sun. I want to be able to roll it back up most of the way in case of wind (but never to travel). Several of my park neighbors have been doing the same with this exact model. When I read the directions it explicitly says to not roll up the screen with the awning..but that is why I got it.

Any thoughts on whether it really hurts the motor etc. to do this? I don't want the screen style with a zipper (Shadepro?) because that also defeats the rollup plan.

  • I use a Shade Pro 2 piece and roll up 4 feet with no problem so I would guess you should be able to roll up 6 feet without issues.

    That only applies to others...:S. We're "special"...:W...Dennis

Most likely doing so will shorten the life of the shade and will obviously void any warranty. I would also think, if you have auto retract, it may void any warranty on the awning should it fail as well...Dennis
  • I don't have an electric awning, but I would think the extra weight of the shade blocker would at the least, strain the motor. Our carefree shade blocker is fairly heavy.
  • I roll up 4 feet of sun screen in my Carefree and travel with it that way. If I had to put it on and off every time, I wouldn't have one, too much trouble.
