Bad fuel

Chasses E-450 Ford

Filled fuel tank but could get no recite at fuel pump...!!! attendant tells me had 3 inches of rain day before and pumps were so wet recite machine not working in pumps. Drive about 5 miles Engine check light comes on!!! Stop check fuel cap to see if loose. does not help. Check fluid levels everything OK. Drive a short distance everything OK. Guys tells me fault code will go off after three engine starts if nothing wrong.

Code still on a couple days later pull into garage to get code read. Folks I got a tank of bad fuel. Put New filter in and Motor Home runs great.

My question? One guy tells me i need to drop tank and put in new pump. Another mechanic says pump ok if code light not coming on because if pump damaged it would not pump correct pressure and code light would show.

Have any of you run into this problem??? I have driven about 1200 miles sense changing filter and have not had a problem or trouble light.
  • Im ready to go just as is but I will have a spare fuel filter to use if i get another check engine code.

I am going to check pressure of fuel rail and see if it is in spec. which I am sure it is.

I was told it can be checked with a tire gage because there is a Schrader valve on fuel rail. I will have to look and make sure that is correct. I was told that is the were jet cleaner is injected. so i will look and see.

that seems like the standard non-road use refunds. guess I have been missing my rebate on the 5 gallons of gas I burn in my boat each year. :)

  • I prefer the refund system as opposed to the fuel dye. Use even just a few drops of the wrong fuel, and it isn't pretty.

Thats a dicey proposition that really doesn't accomplish anything and exposes you to hefty fines.

Yes, a resident of almost any State can file for a rebate on fuel bought out of State and then imported into their home State.

    The problem is two-fold;

First and foremost in order to keep it all legal getting the refund from a purchase of 50 gal. of fuel bought in say North Carolina, you would then also have to then PAY the tax on 50 gal. Of fuel in Virginia.

Secondly, you run the risk of some beaurecrat catching on to the fact your putting the fuel in your vehicle tank and driving out of the State (as opposed to a bulk tank) and that you're actually applying for a refund on some of the fuel you're burning IN State on your way back out.
  • I would be interested in hearing from someone who actually was able to prove their fuel was bad and their repairs were paid for by the station.

Having been involved in litigations I find that there are more urban legends out there than truth. Now we have had diesel fuel added to some of the

trucks in our fleet and we ran the fuel out and kept diluting it and other than being a bit smoky it dissipated without any harm to the service

    trucks.

In Texas we can file a complaint (which I have done) with the department of agriculture and the tanks at the station in question will be inspected for water and low octane fuel.

I will probably never see any compensation for my misfortune But i will have the satisfaction that future consumers will be more or less protected.

I need to look into that in my state.
