Being pulled over by LEO

I have not been stopped in ages (knock on wood and no tickets, another knock). LEO's are out there to do a job, keep us safe. Plus I'm sure down the road somewhere in their chain (whether they admit it) they were probably at some time chastised about not pulling over enough vehicles, etc. Give em a break. You were the luck of the draw. What's it going to hurt? Don't go 36 on them lol. Myself, I cant wait to be pulled over. I'll be opening my door telling them to come on inside while I find my papers which are in the very back of my Class A since I have no storage up front for the papers. And no I wont be placing my papers up front, that's for my coffee, drinks,cigs plus junk food lol. I'm solo so I'll enjoy their conversation, help, and suggestions. But I wont pull off to the side of the road (its too dangerous), I'll be looking for an exit with my blinkers on.

I have been stopped in this MH... well actually I was stopped before he got back to me. I had gotten off of the Jake brake near the bottom of a long hill near home, but in NC and was doing 65 in a 55 when the trooper going the opposite direction turned around. There was a good place to pull over so I was sitting on the step with paperwork by the time he got to me.
I included my carry permit but had left the gun on the dash and told the officer that when I handed him my licence, insurance, registration, and carry. He asked why I had pulled over before he could blue light me and I said I was doing 10 over the speed limit and doubted he had turned around to go to lunch. I was told to sit there while he went and ran my clean licence. I do not know if the carry permit shows up when he gets my info, but I'd rather be the one to tell him I have one and where the gun is located. When he came back he asked where I was going (home), and where I had come from (PA...yesterday), and if I could keep it within the speed limit until I got home (Yes Sir), and that he was not going to ruin my vacation so I was free to go with just a verbal warning... unheard of in NC. I thanked him and made it the 40 miles home without speeding.
I am bad about getting off of the Jake near the bottom of a hill where I can see what's coming up and will often be 5-10 over the speed limit as I start up the next hill.

I don't have a gun, don't want one...... I just don't like'm. My brother's and brother-in-law that were on the force, are retired now, they all carry.

If I'm stopped, you can look at anything you want, come in, make coffee, whatever you want, I have absolutely nothing to hide. You don't even have to take your shoes off, I wear mine inside! LOL!

I have a number of friends who are LEO's. Sheriffs, State Patrol, local cops.

ALL, repeat, ALL, agree. Stay in your car, hands on the wheel. WAIT for the officer to approach. Depending on jurisdiction, they may approach on left or right.

I bring this up because a couple posts talked about an officer wanting to search your MH. An officer must have probable cause to search without permission, without this permission anything found is inadmissible in court. Refusing permission to search is not probable cause.
The recent USSC case I referenced actually pertains to an officer forcing a driver to wait while a "drug dog" is brought in to sniff for drugs. Rodriguez was stopped for a traffic offence but let off with a warning but forced to wait for a "drug dog" that alerted on the vehicle. Yes, drugs were found but the USSC ruled the offender should have been allowed to go as soon as the reason for the original stop was resolved. Jim.

Thanks for the responses. I will let them approach drivers window or front door. But I'm not exiting before hand. I'll let them know of my concealed permit and go from there. But I'm not coming out first, particularly if I can't see them or a badge and further instructions from that point.

They wouldn't be pulling over for speeding that's for sure :B So it's probably something I want to know about.

I belong to an organization that provides me with legal services, at no charge, if I have to use my firearm. This is sort of like emergency road service for people with a carry permit.
This topic came up and according to the lawyers, this is how they say to handle a traffic stop by a LEO.
First, keep you hands in view and stay in your seat. Do not go towards the door, unless he tells you to. Let the LEO determine the course of action. Do what he tells you to do in regards to handing him your license, registration, insurance, etc.
If you do have a gun, let the officer know at first contact. Some states require YOU to notify the officer at first contact and some states require you to acknowledge that you have one IF ASKED by the LEO.
To me it makes more sense to let him know at first contact.
The officer has the LEGAL RIGHT to inspect the area of the vehicle that is under control of the driver. In an automobile he can look through the window, or open door, and see the driver's seat as well as everything within your reach. On an RV, he has the legal right to come in to your coach to check the driver's area of the coach.
This DOES NOT mean that he can inspect the entire coach and this does not mean that he can confiscate anything else since the purpose of his coming in to the coach is to inspect the driver's area only.
Again, he has the legal right to do this.
Basically just let the officer tell you what he wants you to do and things will probably end swiftly. He will probably call for back-up for his protection. If you have a carry permit, let the officer know and let him determine how he wants to handle your weapon.

So should I get up and open the door and step out to meet them, or allow the wife to unlock the door. If you allow them to step inside or you open the door to them have you given up your right to being searched as we invited them in? Or let's say they climb the step and sorta put a arm inside on the dash. Just wondering what the legal ramifications would be. Personally our dogs wouldn't take kindly to their entrance.

If anyone has had this happen what has it gone like? I as many others believe in protecting our rights. Just curious if making them stand outside raises flags on their end. I certainly wouldn't invite them to sit in my car if that were the case.

Just pass the info needed out the screen door opening?
