Best shock absorbers

I am going to replace the shock absorbers on my 2003 SunVoyager with a Workhorse W-22 chassis. Which shocks are better, Bilstein or Koni?
  • Great question! I currently have Bilsteins on my coach and there way better then the Monroe's that were on my coach! I can't comment on Koni or Road Kings I never have had them on a coach to this date.
  • I replaced my shock w/OEM Bilsteins and it rides like when is was new.
  • Here is an interesting comparison to read: http://www.motorhome.com/rv-how-to/rv-tech-tips/shock-therapy-rv-shock-absorber-test/
If your original shocks are Bilsteins, are they the "Comfitrac" model? You can only tell by checking the part #'s on the old shocks.

I have Road Kings, and yes they are much better than Koni, Monroe, or Bilsteins for a heavy coach.

They would be over kill for a gas rig and if the OP did install them, he wouldn't like the ride.

I agree with this. On my DP we had Bilsteins and switched to Koni's. The Koni's made a big difference, but if I decide to reshock the coach it will be with Road Kings.

  • We installed the Koni's and like them. Noticeable difference in handeling.
  • I had Bilsteens on my WH chassis and took them off to replace them with Koni FSD shocks. Bilsteens are gas charged to 300 psi and transfer some road joint bumps back through the chassis. The Koni FSD shocks are not gas charged and absorb the smaller bumps better. On big bumps I didn't notice any difference.
