We are 1/3 of the way through a 7500 mile X country trip. I have used FJ exclusively and have had no problems until yesterday. At exit 95 on I 65 south of Indianapolis, IN, the diesel sign indicated $3.89 9/10 (cash) and with my Good Sam Reward card I thought I would be paying $3.83 9/10 to fill my DSDP, HA!!! I failed to look at the price at the pump at the RV island, and when I was finished, saw that I was being charged $4.14 9/10 per gal. This is over 30 cents per gal., or in my purchase, $22.00 more. When I complained, I was told that if I checked the price listed on the interstate sign, I would see that it said "tax exempt trucks only". They were right, and you could see it if you had strong binoculars.I have always paid the price which was shown on the hi way sign so this is a new gimmick. I don't know if this is exclusively in IN or if this is going to be nationwide. Has anyone else experienced this?

Quite a few gas stations are posting "Cash" prices on their main signs. Naturally the "Cash" is in small letters. It pays to be vigilant today about the cost of everything.

Standard operating procedure in Indiana. Not just Flying J, but most every station. Indiana is the only state we have seen it in, which doesn't mean it doesn't occur elsewhere. It is a quirk in Indiana tax laws, not a scam buy the fuel stations.

The state of Indiana has different rules. Not decided by Flying J.

when we were thru there the price is different for the trucking prices. Probably has to do with taxes. We were instructed to go to a different pump for our fuel. Not a FJ decision. They sale a lot more to the trucker than rv'er I suspect so that is who they advertise to. Larry

But when I use my Flying J preferred customer card and my PF credit card, I end up paying the cash price and also get 5% back! I'm saying myself money, and saving them money cause that counter person does not have to deal with me.

The issue in Indiana, however, has to do with taxes, not cash vs credit pricing. I vividly remember the first (and hopefully last) time I bought diesel in Indiana and ran into the same thing.

I guess you will need to stay out of AZ, IN and OR, as all 3 do the same thing. They have and advertise the PUC price on the sign, which is both legal and ethical for their type of business, TRUCKS not RVs. Flying J is a TRUCK stop or travel center, NOT the local corner gas station.

I much prefer prepay pumps as I get 5% of every dollar back when I use my PenFed Visa Platinum Rewards Card at the pumps! If I pay in the store, I only get 1% back. When I'm purchasing $250 worth of diesel, that 5% on every dollar adds up!

This topic has been discussed several times. There are about 3 states that do this. The over the road trucks pay a different tax rate, which is lower that what you pay at the RV pumps. Indiana is one of those states. I think Arizona is another if I remember correctly. It helps keep your grocery bill down:W!!!

It is not just Flying J. Oregon is the same way. However, Oregon truck stops usually post the truck price with PUC in the sign.
I suggest you do what I did and find a website that gives the truck and auto price and plan accordingly. If you had driven into the truck lane, you would have initially seen the lower price but as soon as you either started the pump without the puc code or told them you were not professional, that price changed to the higher one.
I don't see why you were surprised.

I don't like Flying "J" they have only pre-pay pumps I hate prepay as it is an inconvenience to me when I want to buy something in the store. I don't mind if they let me leave my CC but now they want an amount. Nope no thanks. I am not a mathematician and won't figure out what I need. and every flying "J" has that cash garbage. I wish the CC companies would do something as it is not fair to CC holders or debit card holders to pay more. Who keeps thousands of dollars in their pocket when traveling? That is another reason I love my gas rig I can get gasoline in many more places than diesel. When I drive my bus I look for smaller stations that have diesel and get it there. But yes I have traveled through Indy and it is a very very nice state and I loved living there but see that at a lot of stations. My favorite stations are the new Casey's that have diesel no pre-pay and friendly people.

So you're saying the pump price showed 3.89, but you were charged 4.14. Or did you even look?

I think he stated that the sign stated the $3 price. The pump had the $4 price that he noticed after he filled.
