I'm from Chicago, didn't realize blowing the horn actually meant anything at all.

I wish my coach had an air horn....
I wish I had the money to install Hooker Headers and stainless steel dual exhaust with glaspaks. I bet that V-10 would rumble nicely. Maybe 4 inch straight pipes would be better.
Outdoor speakers would be nice, too, so I could entertain the entire campground with my Spike Jones recordings ("My Old Flame", with the sirens and gunshots! GOOD stuff!)
But then, I'm not quite 75 yet, still in my second childhood, I guess...
mowermech.... the Banks exhaust system has a great rumble when going up a grade. :B - bob_b1ExplorerWow, the responses on this topic were more than I was expecting. I guess that I'm the odd man out. I just don't enjoy a horn blast as much as others here. I've visited NYC and see that they don't enjoy horns either. There is a $300 fine for using the horn within the city;)
I feel that horns should be used in an emergency. Like the boy who cried Wolf, if everyone used them, then nobody would pay attention to them when it was important. I find a lot of construction vehicles and tow trucks will leave their flashing lights on all the time. Pretty soon, nobody will notice when real emergency vehicle are running their lights.
I am leaving the campground today. Do what you want, but when I leave, I won't be making a noisey scene:) - DSDP_DonExplorerWe've left a few times on a Friday night during rush hour traffic. There is a short tunnel at the 405 Fwy and I-5 in Los Angeles where several lanes merge and people get easily agitated. I always blow the air horn and then others start to honk. It seems to lighten the move.
The best tunnel though is the one just as you enter Yosemite Valley....you can honk in there until you run out of air. - Skid_Row_JoeExplorerA short blast of diesel-rig air horns is great. Not so much the long blasts. That's obnoxious. :(
In the early 1970s I had two Cadillacs with the loud electric horns, then later had a Mercedes-Benz diesel car with high-pitched European sounding twin electric horns. Those cars could all be used as weapons of audio destruction. Nowadays, just normal electric horns - no air horns! - kalynzooExplorerI don't believe I have ever used the horn on my MH. But that is just me. Sure the early morning blasting of a horn would not be among my favorite sounds, but it would probably just be added to the ambient sound of the train next door, the highway, morning diesels warming, the trash truck, leaf blowing crews, and helicopters (police in the city and tour in the country).
So whatever. Happy Trails. - paulsangExplorer
