Bolting down a sofa for my 1988 Winnebago Superchief 27RQ

Hi folks,

I bought a 1988 Superchief with the sofa removed. The previous owner gave me the original sofa and i'm trying to re-install it. There are stains on the carpet where the sofa was previously. However, There are no holes in the floor and I can't figure out how it was secured.

The pull out sleeper has four mount points (legs) and each one has a plate that is bent with holes going down and back. So it could have been mounted directly to the floor or to another surface.

I know this is not a great description and I will get some pictures next time I visit my RV in storage.

If anyone has knowledge of this sofa configuration, I would appreciate any information you have!

Thanks,
Dan
  • On mine from the factory they simply had two sheet metal straps, the kind you might use to secure a water heater to the wall. Screwed to the sofa frame and screwed to the floor.
  • I think the only way you can identify where the original sofa was secured to the floor is to cut the carpet perpendicular to the m/o wall just inside the length of the sofa and not to the inside measurement of the sofa. That way the carpet will still remain intact and you can visualize where the original holes are located. Just an idea. The holes are so small it will virtually be impossible to find without the carpet lifted. Hope this idea works for you.
I want to restuff my sofa in my 1989 Bounder but haven't got the motivation yet. My sofa has a metal pipe frame and it has like pipe brackets with two holes on each of the 4 brackets.
  • Both great bits of knowledge. Thank you. I'm going to do more investigation and see where the holes are in the area. I know there is none at the original sofa location bc i don't feel any under the carpet stains. however, I believe it was mounted to a bracket of some sort and then down to the floor.

    Thanks
  • Ive seen them just lagged into the floor. Just be sure not to use too long of a lag screw or it might show up somewhere it shouldn't.:B
  • I bought 2" lag screws and figured I would do just that. i'm trying to find a seat belt receiver that's long enuff to reach the seat and then I'll bolt the sofa in.

    Thanks
