- Gonzo42ExplorerSuzuki Samurai is a good light Toad. Only you have to find a good deal on one. I searched far and wide and found either (1) low-priced junk, or (2) high-priced and highly modified.
Then I found my Daihatsu Rocky which in addition to be our Toad, its also my favorite new toy. - Hank85713Explorerfinding what you want as a towed vehicle is a little more than asking what will fit the bill IMO. Yes I tow a 13 hyundai elantra manual trans behind our setup. under 3000 lbs has a good wide track and length for stability. Got it because when we bought the rv had to drive to prescott to pick it up. also we had to take a bunch of canning supplies to my sister and the elantra we rented did the trick plus got 30+mpg.
SO you will need to go and look for what will fit your wants and needs. could be honda a toyota, maybe a jeep of some sort, but it needs to fit you. There was an article in the newspapers on cars people would NOT buy again and most were the smaller cars that are out there manual everything with few creature comforts and not much power. The versa, the aspect the rio, etc type of vehicles and even new are only about 4K if that much less than a little bigger car like the elantra or other similar vehicles. It cost me around $900 to have the baseplates and wiring installed, another 40 for a spare tire (new cars dont come with one anymore it seems), jack etc. Still have the bottle of slime and elec pump that came with it, bu it was easy to get replacement doughnut tire for the car.
so take your time look around and find something that fits you and yours new or used as you will keep it for a long time probably even if you sell the rv. - IslandmanExplorer IIWe tow a 2003 Jeep Wrangler TJ with auto trans, no problems at all and it's a tough little go-anywhere vehicle. It's equipped with the SMI braking system, and our Ford E450 Class C is still working fine. Good thing about the Jeep is that the resale value is always good and service if needed is easy to find if and when needed.
- tatestExplorer III'm pulling a Honda Fit, about 2600 pounds with the baseplate added. Not only easy to tow, but it is the right size for my day to day transportation needs.
Used to tow a 3600 pound manual transmission regular-cab Ranger pickup. 1000 pounds lighter feels a lot better on hills and in tight curves, where a toad can be pulling that long rear overhang sideways. - tenbearExplorerWe tow a 2010 4wd Subaru sedan, only the standard shift Subaru is towable. I understand the current Subarus are no longer towable so if you are buying a new car to tow, a Subaru is not for you.
- LlibnmapExplorerWe tow a 08 Madza Tribute (Ford Escape ) on an EZ Tow Dolly behind out 06 E450 V10 , 13,000 miles last year, no problems. Including the west coast.
- rockhillmanorExplorer IICheck out the Escapees full timers classified. You usually can find a ton of toads all set up to tow. Base plate, wiring and tow bar.
Either full timers retiring or just upgrading to a new car. At least you'd know they were taken care of by a fellow RV'ers.
