Cable TV at RV park

We have a 2004 Four Winds Infinity and still has the tv that came with the RV. My question is: We have only had this RV for about a month and never had it hooked up to cable. Never been to an RV park yet but will be going this February and the park does have cable and would like to know if this OE tv will work on cable hook up? Or does it have to be a new High Definition flat screen tv? Thanks

  • It should work for analog channels but not for digital ones. I suggest replacing it. I did that for my bedroom TV which was a 19 inch analog. I replaced it with a 26 inch lcd. It was not all that difficult. I tried using a Winegaard converter first but was not all that happy with it.
  • Suggest you may want to check the resolution of the over the air signals as some are 480 , some are 760 and some are 1080 and and as you stated all are better then the old analog signal.

  • Ya ask a simple question and you get...............

Probably best to just buy a cheap new TV and use it around your home when not RVing. A new TV will work on everything.
  • Some parks using newer digital technology will require you to use a cable company converter box. We are parked for long term right now, and had to go to the cable company to get the free converter box. Will need to return it when we leave. Easier for us is satellite TV. We have the free cable connected for movies once in a while and if we loose satellite due to weather.
  • when you use the "cable" at the park you will need to change the tv to cable mode and scan the channels.
  • You could add a converter to your present TV, or remove and replace it with something the weight 40 pounds, or less. Depending on the size of the original TV cabinet, you may, or may not need to do some cabinet work. We pulled out a 29",(weighed at least 180 pounds), and replaced with a 32" LCD that weight 27 pounds. Your antenna does not need to be changed, unless it is not working now.

You are most definitely missing out of excellent high def digital TV coverage. Over the Air TV from the local towns using the BATWING antenna on your camper comes in full high def mode and very pleasant on the eyes...

What all would I need to get this? Do I add something to the tv that is now in the RV or do I need to somehow pull that tv out and somehow install a HD flat screen smart tv? Appreciate the help. John and Linda

  • Should not be a problem, our coach is a 1993 and worked fine with the original tube type TV. Have replaced them since, happy trails!
