carefree awwning

I have an Eclipse motorized awning that won't retract. Upon inspection I found the roller tube end cap cracked and slipping on the gear box shaft. Carefree only sells the whole assembly for $230. This end cap is held on with an external snap ring and a person should not have to purchase a $230 part for a $10 end cap! Does anybody where I might get just the end cap new or used?

    Wow; good reason to never buy a Carefree motorized awning. I clipped my S&B roof with the rear of my MH, breaking the rear awning cap (manual A&E awning). About $15 at my local RV parts place, and I was back in business.

    I agree with the earlier poster; time to improvise, AND tell Carefree to stick it and why.

    Look at the shaft the cap goes on to see if it has one flat or two. The shaft with two flats on it has replaced the single flat drive shaft. Either way the cap is not available separate.

    This is the time for improvision. I would not give them the money and I would call them and tell them why you are improvising. Let them know they are missing out on a sale because of greed.

    Perhaps you could take it off and epoxy the crack together.
    Give it a light sanding so the epoxy can grip the plastic.
    Drill a tiny hole at the end of the crack and use a small grinder like a Dremel to widen the crack to a "V" shape for more epoxy depth.
    It's already broken so what do you have to lose ?

    I have the same awning and had the same problem Carefree will not sell just the part you need, you must buy the whole assembly...BTDT. Also, they would not send it to me, just an authorized tech...authorized by them. Ship time was over six weeks. If I have a choice, I'll never have another Carefree product.
