Changing to LED Lighting

I've been digging into changing some of my overhead lights to LED.

Right now I have 5 12 VDC fixtures with 2 ea F15T8WW bulbs and I think I want to change all of these to LED but in CW and would appreciate input from those that have made this switch.

What I don't want is to lose any brighness.

Any comments would be appreciated as well as source recommendations.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

The cheapest I can find now is $35. Anyone know a cheaper place?

  • I've been replacing some of the florescent tube lighting in my coach as the ballast units have been burning out, Using "Ultra Bright 12 V Home Tri-Chip Led lighting tubes in both 9" and 20" tubes" from Oznium.com. Used their "Warm White" 3363 degree K Leds, but offers a much nicer color lighting that the old florescents did. And on top of that, they are much brighter, without the harshness. Liked the outcome so much, that we plan on doing more this summer!!!

I removed the ballast and florescent fixtures from the Thinline light housing and intalled the Led tubes in the same housing, without taking the housing down. Put the plastic light defusers back in place once the tubes were installed. Very happy with Oznium, a company from Pagosa Sprongs, Co., and their products!
  • Changed out every light in motorhome to LED lights, best thing I did. I only put one LED light in overhead lights as the brightness was too much with two bulbs. I am fairly useless with tools, but I was able to change out all the bulbs and cut the wires to take the ballast out of play. I would not hesitate to change out the bulbs. Heat reduction is huge, reading lights that you could not touch are now safe to touch.
Enjoy the new light in your coach.
  • We changed out all the reading lights and main ceiling lights in our former Southwind. Buyer got a deal as I had to leave many behind. Current coach came with almost all leds. Love them. Watch what you buy. Some are so dim they barely glow. Good for nightlights. Bright whites are great. Don't buy if you can't see what they look like lit.
  • Do it!!!! It will take the larger capacity leds to give the same brightness. There realy is a difference between soft white and bright white and you will not want to mix them. I think it cost about 15 dollars a bulb 2 years ago. Ordered them direct from a distributor. and changed out about 11 2 bulb fixtures with the simple plug connections that matched the old bulb. Battery life is greatly improved and heat input to the cabin is measurably reduced. For folks that boon dock, changing out would improve capacity more than adding another house battery.
