Clearance/Tail Lights Not Working

We have a 2008 Winnebago View 24H and we're on the road this week. The 5 red lights along the top rear of the RV - clearance/tail or lamps (or running lights) are not lighting. I believe they are supposed to be lit when the engine is running or at least while the transmission is in gear. Brake lights and turn signals are working fine.

I first started searching for fuses under the drivers seat and then under the drivers side foot area. There are lots of fuses there with no clue as to what they are for - I don't seem to have a fuse panel diagram.

I did find the automotive and coach circuit breakers under passenger seat and there is a breaker there marked CLEARANCE/TAIL LAMPS but that appears to be Ok.

Any other hints as to where I might look for the cause of this problem?

Thanks,
John

  • Well, duh, didn't check front running lights.

Thanks for the hint about continuity check - my volt/ohm meter is at home.

On the back of each fuse are two small exposed prongs. You can get a continuity meter and check each one without pulling them. If you find one blown, there may be your problem.
  • Is there a way to contact Winnebago with questions? Do they answer?

    Thanks,
    John
  • might send a e mail to winnie or call tech service. you,ll need your vin # ready.
  • Thanks for the clarification on "running" lights! We had done that check (as well as others) and no clearance lights with headlights on.
  • Howdy, I can only share my similar experience. Ford E350 2002. Running lights when out after I was working on install of electric brake controller. Can't remember if brake and directionals were also out at that time. Ended up being one of the big green fuses in the under hood fuse panel. Can't remember what amperage it was but it was green and I was suprised it was one of the big ones...
  • Clearance/Running lights should come on when headlight switch is turned to running lights or headlight positions. Have not heard of them coming on when engine is running or trans is in gear.
If they do not come on with switch. Check wiring that feeds running lights with a voltmeter.
