cummins "53"

im thinking of buying an 2001 holiday rambler endeavor with the cummins motor, does anybody know if the motor used is the "53" block which seems to be a bad issue (cracked blocks) in dodge trucks, wondering if its a concern in motorhomes also. Thanks, Tom

    That is correct.
  • I believe the 53 block was only on the Cummins ISB. I doubt the Endeavor has the ISB small block
  • I have a 1999 code 53 ISB. Had it 14 yrs, no problems (have to admit, was quite concerned when I learned about the potential issue after I'd bought the coach).
Re. what you are looking at, I believe the cracked block issue would have occurred by now. If it passes a pressure test now, I wouldn't worry.
  • thanks for the response, I am going out this morning to check it out, this motorhome has 89,000 miles on it, i'll see what it looks like ...
  • The years for these blocks were from 1998 to 2002, they were cast in Brazil. I had the misfortune of getting stuck with one of these failures in a MH.
  • Yes, 99-01 I would check the block. Yes, this applies to Cummins B engine ONLY.
