Diesel in Maritimes - not allowed to fuel at truck stops?

OK was just reading my Big Rigs Best Bets as I'm heading down to Nova Scotia in a couple of weeks.

In the section on fuel stops they say that that in the Maritimes you need a commercial permit to refuel at truck stops and that you must use the ordinary diesel pumps that are co-located with gasoline pumps.

Can anyone confirm this is still valid? It would impact my route planning (and make a fuel stop more aggravating).

Also does anyone know if this applies in Quebec as well (their book has nothing on Quebec)?

Thanks for any feedback.

Chris

Thanks, I'm going straight along the TCH to Truro and expect to stay in the area a week and a few days before heading back.

  • When we went to Newfoundland we found a lot of diesel stops that required a card.

We just returned from a three week east coast trip and most of the truck stops do have card lock pumps but we did not have any problems getting diesel at the regular pumps. There were no problems getting diesel anywhere in Nova Scotia. The price was approximately 1.00 a liter. Fuel prices are updated every Wednesday night as per our friends in Halifax. Provincially regulated?

Thanks, so to clarify, you did not use truck stops, just regular pumps.
I guess at least that way I can use Gas Buddy:).

I was down and back that way to NF in May but didn't pay much attention as I wasn't in the MH.
