Do Slides scratch or disrupt Pergo flooring?

Planning to replace MH carpet with either Pergo or ceramic tile. I have two concerns about using Pergo flooring. First will my slides which formerly slid in and out on carpet, scratch the Pergo?

Second, with the floating flooring snapped together and running fore and aft and the slide movement at 90 degrees will the movement cause the flooring to separate?
  • My galley slide has the rollers in the floor and a smooth surface under the slide. I presume the slide on the opposite side is similar but have never had it hyper extended.

Do a search on Slideout Slickers. I plan to buy some this winter
  • I believe the slides on National producta actually slid on the carpeted floors. I had a 2000 model and had some rough spots on the bottom of the living room slide which snagged and damaged the carpet. National fixed it at the time, but I think they may be a problem if the carpet were changed to hard flooring.
  • My slides will scratch any flooring. Newmar supplied me with floor protector pads to put down when the FWS goes in/out & I use them religiously. However a few times they haven't stayed in place and I have scratches. I have the hard rubber rollers but over time they can pick up a stone chip etc. and do a number on a glossy tile. They are also a PITA so if we just stop for a night we just leave them on the floor. Not my favorite.
  • Will the slide scratch - maybe, see sailor_lou's advice. In my house, the Pergo is almost 15 yrs old. Most of it is still like new, but there is a section where a wooden rocker scratched it due to sand/grit under the rockers. In the kitchen area, to prevent water penetration, I glued the edges together when putting it down, making it one big slab that was still free to float over the underlayment, and expand and contract along all the edges next to the walls/cabinets. In other areas, I do have a couple of spots where the board ends pulled away from each other over the years, leaving some small but noticeable gaps. Probably should have glued it everywhere.....RV frames flex, so glueing flooring/tile down to the subfloor just seems to be inviting later troubles.
  • Regarding the scratching, on my rig there are several large (approx. 10" wide) slide rollers that travel over the flooring. The rollers over carpet are metal and the ones over the ceramic tile are made from a hard rubber. If you have a similar setup, I would look into changing them all to a rubber material.

Good question about the snap flooring separating, esp. if it is floating over a flexible mat. I would look into an engineered plank flooring that can be glued down. Good luck.

  • The slides can scratch the flooring. It happened to me. Some installations require the slide be adjusted.
