Do you travel with your interior doors open or shut

When I bought my coach I asked them if I should close the interior doors to the bedroom or rear bathroom while I travel or leave them open. The delivery PDI guy told me emphatically to leave them open. i.e. I should be able to see all the way back to the end of the coach. My mid coach bathroom remains closed while traveling. I'm guessing it has something to do with safety. What do you guys do?

  • In my old Winnebago, I had 2 doors. The first was a wood door that I kept shut - from the galley area to the bathroom. I didn't have a way to secure it in place and the only way I could keep it from swinging back and forth was to close it.

The second door was an accordion-style door from the bathroom to the bedroom. It had a strap with a button that was used to secure it open and a magnet to keep it closed. The strap was far more sturdy in keeping it open than the magnet was to keep it closed. So, it stayed open.

On my 2001 Wanderlodge, I have 2 pocket doors and a solid door. The 2 pocket doors (1 from galley to bathroom and 1 from bathroom to bedroom) both have a way to secure them open or closed. They stay open when travelling. It keeps airflow and makes it easier for my wife to move around on those rare occasions she needs to do so. The solid door goes to the toilet area from within the bathroom. It stays shut all the time (except when entering/exiting). Opening it puts it in the way and it also has no way to secure it when its not latched closed.

Believe it or not, I've had non-rvers walk into my coach and ask me how I drive down the road like this.
  • We drive with the doors, windows and slides open...more room and better air flow..:W....Dennis

I asked him because the doors can be latched open or shut. My old coach could only be latched open. I've also heard of folks shutting them to reduce the air volume that needs to be cooled up front while traveling.

Our doors will latch open or closed, so they stay put either way without any slamming. And they're over half way down the MH so having them open or closed doesn't make any difference on the cooling.

While driving our front end area stays nice and cool. I was noticing the other day that when the two slides are in, the front ends of the slides that come in right behind the driver's and passenger's seats form a nice partial wall to keep the cooler air up front. The two slide walls probably block about half of the MH width behind the seats.

closed. no need to have them bang shut. can't imagine why it would be a safety issue.
  • We leave them open as we have engine driven dash air cooling system in the bedroom also.

Like every one else, we have learned whether open or closed, the doors need to be latched!
  • We always leave the sliding door to the rear bedroom open ans secured. The bathroom door always remains closed.
