E450 vacuum lines

My E450 climate control system has a leak or blockage and has defaulted to defrost. I have a fsm and it gives a excellent diagnostic chart but I am stuck on the first test. I cannot find the in-line vacuum harness connector. The fsm says it is located in the vehicle below the instrument panel on the passenger side. I looked and looked and can't find it.

  • I got mine fixed finally.

Some good info on the net and tracing vacuum lines I found two places that mouses opened the line. I got a rubber vacuum hose that fit over the existing line. Used some glue to join the two together and problem fixed. I was lucky because the mouses ate the line in a location where I could just reach it. Two more inches and I would have needed professional help.
  • I had the same problem bought a plastic tank from auto parts cut the vacuum lines and just hooked it up. Solved the problem. Hope that helps.
  • Grinder613,
Recently purchased a 2007 Aspect on the Ford 2006 E450 chassis. On our first trip, turned on the air conditioner found that it only blows air thru the defrost vents.

Found two places under the hood where the rodents chewed a hole in the vacuum line. Fixed those but still have a problem. Have not been able to trace the line from the engine compartment to under the dash. Expect to find more holes. Don't have a repair manual so have not been able to figure out how to take some of the panels off. Grrrrr......

Will be interested in what your discover.

That's where I'm at with mine. Everything, hot or cold, comes out the dash vents.

  • I had my ac only coming out the defroster too when chipmunks ate thru a vacuum line . I was able to do a temporary fix to get me home by using a tie wrap on a vacuum control motor. It was located under the panel in the middle of the dash , near the windshield. I don't know where the harness connector is. The fix in 2006 was $270 at Ford
  • Got some answers on this problem. This pertains to all ford e450 chassis. If your ac defaults to defrost, the most likely problem is the check valve or vacuum tank. If your lucky, a loose vacuum line. Ford buried the valve and tank under the heater and battery box. Ford says you have to remove the heater box to get at the tank and valve. That means draining the a/c and coolant. I understand ford charges about 20 hours or more to do this. The alternative method is to cut a hole in the inner fender well for access or installing a tank and valve under the dash. I found answers on ford-trucks.com What a pain.
